LYNN – If you’ve ever strolled along the scenic Lynn Shore Drive and weren’t sure which was more scenic – the rolling waves of the Atlantic or the rolling hills of historic homes across the street – Saturday is your chance to decide.Six homeowners in Lynn’s Diamond District will open their doors to the community tomorrow for the city’s second annual Holiday House Tour. From 1 to 6 p.m., the public can tour the homes, which North Shore designers and North Shore Community College design students decorated for the holidays, while sipping warm drinks, picking up holiday goodie bags and exchanging design ideas. The event is sponsored by and supports community nonprofits Lynn Arts, which promotes art and music events in the city, and Catholic Charities North, a branch of the national charity association that provides low-income families with basic needs.Last year about 300 people showed up for the event, and organizers are hoping for a much higher turnout this year, said Cheryl Conte, one of the tour’s organizers. She and volunteers have been working since March to find homeowners and local designers, but December has been the real mad dash to get everything ready.Just about every night this week, Jordan’s Furniture store designer Bob Marshall has been over at John McKinlay’s and Jamie Cybulski’s waterfront home on Prescott Drive, positioning stuffed quail in the dining room and hanging full wreaths in the window. The Lynn residents’ 1910 home, which they bought from high-profile attorney Francis Lee Bailey Jr., will be one of the tour’s highlights.Marshall said he loves the large, open rooms, the unique brickwork under the home’s eight fireplaces, the refurbished sunroom with original terracotta tiles ? he could go on and on.”I love the glow of the room,” he said as he adjusted a wooden trunk in the living room with decorative plates.Next to the room’s bay windows, McKinlay’s piano sat polished and ready for a local musician to play to guests on Saturday’s tour.Cybulski said she and her husband are having fun letting a professional designer decorate their home after they just finished repairing it.”I’ll get a lot of good design ideas out of this,” she said. She said she hopes tour attendees can realize how much effort many Diamond District homeowners put into refurbishing the old homes and improving the community. The tour will also bridge socio-economic gaps by joining people who might not otherwise meet and hopefully open up a new world to some Lynn residents.”People drive by [the houses] all the time, but they don’t know about what’s inside,” she said. The six homes on the tour are: 53 Atlantic Terrace, 48 Nahant St., 17 Prescott St., 11 Wolcott St., 162 Ocean St. and 80 Ocean St.IF YOU GO:Tickets are $30 if purchased in advance and $35 on the day of the event. You can purchase a ticket at Lynn Arts, 25 Exchange St., or Solimine Landergan & Rhodes’ funeral home, 425 Broadway St. Buses will shuttle attendees to the homes.
