Matt Tempesta / The Daily ItemSAUGUS – Square One Mall General Manager Susan Yee said she has high hopes for the mall’s newest tenant, Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse.”There’s nothing like it on Route 1,” said Yee. “It’s entertainment. It’s for special occasions, it’s fun and it’s healthy. It’s a great location and people are going to look forward to going.”The Board of Selectmen voted 3-0 last Tuesday night to transfer a liquor and entertainment license from Twitters Bar and Grille, which closed in January, to Tokyo II Steak House, Inc. and president Guang Long Lin, who owns restaurants in Peabody, Cambridge and Braintree.”This was the largest hurdle to get over,” said Yee. “Everything was hinging on the liquor license being approved by the Board of Selectmen. I’ve been having conversations about what needs to happen. “The fact that (Lin) has three other licenses makes it a lot easier. You’re not dealing with an unknown.”The 162-seat Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse will feature hibachi-style cooking, where meals are prepared and cooked on your table and Shabu, or hot pot-style, another table-side cooking method where food is cooked in a simmering pot of broth.”Hibachi-style cooking creates a happy going atmosphere and healthy food,” said Lin, in a letter to the Board. “Its cooking preserves the savory flavor and nutrients in the food. Our goal is to provide good, quality foods and services at a competitive price to benefit the Saugus community.”Lin said he hopes to open the restaurant for the holiday season.Speaking to the Board of Tuesday night, attorney Christopher Coleman said Yao Mei Liu will take over as manager. Liu worked as a waitress at Ginza in Brookline from 2007 to March of 2011 and has been working at Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse in Braintree since then.”She has good restaurant experience and is planning on spending more that 40 hours there a week,” said Coleman. “She’s familiar with all the rules and regulations of the town of Saugus as well as the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.”Selectman Scott Crabtree said the new Japanese eatery will be a unique addition to Saugus.”It’s something we haven’t had here in Saugus for some time,” said Crabtree. “It looks like it will be a benefit to the community and to the mall.”Matt Tempesta can be reached at [email protected].
