MARBLEHEAD – A Marblehead teen was arrested early Monday for allegedly breaking into several cars in the area of Taft Street.According to a police report, the 16-year-old suspect was spotted by a neighbor around 1:40 a.m., allegedly shining a flashlight into a vehicle on Taft Street and then rummaging through it.Police responded and caught up with the suspect, who allegedly matched the neighbor’s description of wearing a backpack with his hair pulled into a long ponytail.Stopping him for questioning, police pat-frisked him and searched his backpack, which police say allegedly contained four GPS navigational units, four charging chords, a black Motorola cellular phone, binoculars, a digital camera, an iPod with headphones, a hand-held multi-tool, two glass marijuana bowls, football gloves and $8.73 in change.While police were looking through the contents of the backpack, the suspect allegedly said, “My friend from Lynn gave all that stuff to me, I don’t know if it’s stolen or not.”Police say from Aug. 15-19, there were 22 reports of motor vehicle break-ins in town, typically during the early morning to mid-morning hours. In addition, police say the majority of the break-ins were reported in the area where the suspect was observed early Monday. The area is allegedly located within one mile of the suspect’s home address.During booking, the suspect was charged with larceny over $250, breaking and entering into a motor vehicle, and receiving stolen property.
