LYNN – After previous success with Latin artists like Julio Iglesias, city officials expect Lynn Memorial Auditorium will sell out two upcoming shows this fall featuring singer Ana Gabriel and soft rock band Camila.James Marsh, director of the Office of Economic and Community Development, said Latin-inspired performances at the auditorium gained such popularity in the past that his team moved to booking the artists themselves instead of renting out the space. He expects both artists to sell out their shows, which are Sept. 9 at 8 p.m. for Gabriel, and Oct. 22 at 8 p.m. for Camila.?We’ve been delving into the Latin market more and more with great success,” Marsh said. After doing his research, Marsh worked with the artists? agents to hit two markets. Gabriel, an artist in her 50s who has recorded 23 albums her 30-year career, is expected to draw an older crowd with her style of romantic ballads.Camila is a band of three men who play Spanish pop and soft rock music, and who have been known only since 2006. Both Mexican bands have frequented the top of the Latin Billboard charts.Marsh says in doing his research to select the artists, he heard Gabriel compared to Celine Dion and Camila to the Jonas Brothers.According to Rafeal Ulloa, online director of Latino web source Tuboston.com, Gabriel will draw an older, wider crowd because of her more generic style. Camila will attract a younger, more outgoing audience that is active with the club scene.Tickers for Camila are on sale at online at www.lynnauditorium.com and at the City Hall box office. In the first week 650 tickets have been sold.?Camila?s sales are much stronger right now, especially online with the younger crowd,” said Marsh. “It’s just going.”Tickets for Gabriel, which have been on sale for two weeks, are also selling steady, also with about 650 tickets sold to date.?Selling is extremely strong at this point, and we expect ticket sales to go up in the next couple weeks,” said Marsh, who added that he thinks both shows will sell out a few days before the performance.?I think it’s great for the community,” said Marsh. “Lynn has great diversity. We not only bring Kenny Rogers and Kansas but we also bring Ana Gabriel and Camila and other acts that traditionally draw a Latin American crowd.”In addition to expanding their audience to the Latin community, Marsh said the fall lineup will offer an even wider variety, featuring children?s shows and as classic rock artists including Peter Frampton, Pat Benatar, rhythm and blues artist Southside Johnny and country singer Sara Evans.?We’re just offering something for everybody,” said Marsh. “If I just stuck to the things I like, we’d be listening to 80’s music all day long.”
