LYNN – Julio Bare has played plenty of festivals as a musician but as an organizing committee member for Lynn’s Dominican festival, he will be busy ensuring Saturday’s midday parade goes off without a hitch.Parade participants will assemble on the corner of Chestnut and Union streets and proceed starting at 11 a.m. down Chestnut through Central Square onto Washington Street. The parade will continue down Washington to Western Avenue where the procession will head to Fraser Field.”We hope it will take no more than an hour,” Bare said.Along with fellow organizers Frances and Felix Martinez, Denis Pimental and Jose Encarnacion, Bare has worked for almost a year preparing Saturday’s afternoon and evening event featuring entertainers and a 3 p.m. baseball game between the Dominican Tigers and North Shore Navigators.”This festival will present a good chunk of Dominican culture – food, music and baseball,” Bare said.Frances Martinez, North Shore Latino Business Association executive director, said the festival will feature performances by dancers and musicians with the Fraser Field activities broadcast live to the Dominican Republic by Telemicro Internacional, a Dominican television network.”This has turned into a huge event with the telecast,” Martinez said. The festival is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. with a presentation and end at 9 p.m.Bare, a Dominican native who moved to the United States after high school, said centering the festival in Fraser Field ensures a secure and well-run event. He looks forward to listening instead of playing music on Saturday.”I want to make sure everything goes well,” he said.
