The Eagles took to the water on Sunday, with sterling results.St. John’s Prep’s swimming team dominated the MIAA Boys Division 1 State Championship on Sunday, scoring 249 points, or 62.5 more than second-place Lincoln Sudbury.Ten Eagles placed in the top-ten of various events, and four had strong finishes in a quartet of races. The 200 medley relay team of Aaron Athanas, Ryan Fortin, John Bateman and Brendan Sweeney finished second with a time of 1:36.16. Athanas and Bateman were teamed with Peter Fallon and Robert Breen and captured first place in the 400 freestyle relay (3:11.90). In addition, Athanas won the 100 backstroke (52.12) and placed second in the 100 free (47.78) while Bateman finished third in the 50 free (21.83) and fifth in the 100 butterfly (53.49).Breen swam to second in the 500 free (4:41.33) and third in the 200 (1:43.73), and Fallon placed fifth in the 500 (4:46.56) and sixth in the 200 free (1:46.85). Alex Swaim finished ninth in the 200 (1:48.45) and seventh in the 100 butterfly (54.21).Fortin won the 200 individual medley (1:55.15) and placed second in the 100 breaststroke (57.85), and Phillip Dytko finished tenth in the 200 individual (2:03.85) and 100 butterfly (55.56).The team of Caleb Bower, Fortin, Jennings Soccorso-McCoy and Breen were victorious in the 200 free relay; Bower took ninth in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.04), and Soccorso-McCoy finished fourth in the 100 backstroke (55.30).In the Division 2 meet, Lynnfield’s Jeff Cook placed second in the 200 (1:45.9) and sixth in the 100 (49). Danvers’ Graham Beck finished third in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.72), and Marblehead’s Harrison Rodts swam to eighth place in the 500 (5:01.64) and 15th in the 200 IM (2:08.25).
