In a matchup of two powerhouse teams, the St. Mary’s boys hockey team led 3-2 with 1:49 remaining at Hingham until a rash of penalties gave the Harbormen an opportunity they seized.Hingham scored three unanswered goals in the aforementioned final 1:49, two on the power play and the third on an empty net, to win, 5-3, as the Spartans fell to 9-2-3 in what their coach, Mark Lee, called their “best game of the year.””It was an unbelievable game up until the end,” Lee said. “I’m proud of the team. They deserved to win and played their hearts out. Unfortunately, we played five-on-three in the last two minutes.”St. Mary’s led 1-0 after one thanks to a goal from Bobby Mullins (Jordan Manthorne, Brendan Mageary) midway through the first period, and Hingham knotted the game at one midway through the second. It was a back-and-forth contest as the Spartans and Harbormen exchanged goals in the third before Hingham pulled away for the win.Donald Hesse made 27 saves in defeat.Peabody 3, Gloucester 3At McVann-O’Keefe Rink in Peabody, the Tanners took the lead with 3:30 left before a late Fishermen goal tied the score with 1:53 remaining.In a quintessential back-and-forth contest, Peabody’s (9-2-3) Mike Chiappini (Ryan Noftle, Rob Houghton) scored a power play goal to give his team the early lead only to have it taken away two minutes later on a goal by John Interriante (Sal Taormina, Ben Chianciola).Neither team beat the opposition’s keeper in the second but both made up for it in the third. Gloucester (5-7-2) took the lead on Interriante’s second tally of the night, which was answered by two goals from Peabody (Houghton and Connor Purcell). Mike Russo tied the score for the Fishermen.Swampscott 3, Revere 1At Salem State College, the Big Blue received scoring contributions from Corey Carmody, Matt Videtta and Gino Cresta.Swampscott scored two goals in the second period, a lead it carried into the third period. Dale Paradise halved the Big Blue’s lead early in the third period, but Revere was never able to tie the game.Pat Gavin made 19 saves Swampscott as the team improved to 5-9-1.Fenwick 2, Lowell Catholic 0At Skate 3 in Tyngsboro, Nick Amireault (Andy Young) and Drew Thibodeau (Joe Shea, Bret Kidik) scored first period goals for the Crusaders as the team improved to 10-2.Fenwick had plenty of other scoring chances throughout the game according to its coach, Dan Lynch, but was not able to capitalize.Brad Rocheville made 16 saves in the win.Fenwick 6, St. Clement 4At St. Clement on Saturday, Joe Shea scored and Bret Kidik had two goals and two assists apiece, and Mike Cipriani and Bobby Liberge scored single tallies as the Crusaders took advantage of a struggling St. Clement squad.After building the lead to 3-1, St. Clement managed to tie the game at three before Fenwick responded with three unanswered goals.Wilmington 3, Lynnfield 0At Ristuccia Arena in Wilmington, the Pioneers fell to 8-5-3 as Wilmington received goals from Brian Hurley, Dalton Rolli and Andy Owens (empty net).M’Head 4, Lynn 0At Salem State College, the Jets fell to 2-10-1 as the Magicians scored two goals in the first and third periods.St. John’s 4, Xaverian 1At Ristuccia Arena in Wilmington, the Eagles (8-4-1) got two goals from Colin Blackwell in the win. Christian Gutowski and Sam Kurker each scored single goals for the Eagles. Kurker added an assist. Joe Farrow had two assists and Joe Currie and Brian Pinho had single helpers. David Letarte made 15 saves.
