NAHANT – Town Treasurer/Collector Joanne Bingham is retiring Feb. 18 after more than a decade of service to the town.Bingham declined to be interviewed this week, but Nahant Town Administrator Mark Cullinan confirmed she is retiring.?She wants to spend more time enjoying her grandchildren,” Cullinan said.Board of Selectmen Chairman Richard Lombard said Bingham is a valued town employee.?She started working for the town in public works,” he said. “Then she was hired as assistant treasurer and moved up the ranks to treasurer/collector. She always goes above and beyond. She has done a great job for the town.”Selectman Michael Manning added Bingham would be missed and he wishes her well in her retirement.?She has been doing a super job for us for a number of years,” he said. “I think she might be ready to move to a warmer climate. She has kept the office very organized and running well.”Lainey Titus, who is the newest member of the Board of Selectmen, said Bingham has been a stellar employee.?Every time I’ve worked with her she has been very professional,” Titus said. “I know she is looking forward to retirement and I wish her well.”Cullinan said he would recommend the selectmen appoint assistant treasurer Kathryn Famulari to the position.Lombard said he would support the appointment of Famulari to treasurer/collector.?I think she is the perfect candidate,” Lombard said. “She is a dedicated town employee and knows the job inside and out.”Manning also said Famulari has been doing an exceptional job as assistant treasurer.?She has good people skills,” he said. “She is familiar with the office and I think she’ll do an excellent job for us.”
