LYNN ? One day back in 1985, Mario Spinucci bought a pickup truck at a Lynnway auto dealership, tossed his tools in the back and went into the carpentry business on his own.It had been three years since graduating from Lynn Vocational and Technical Institute in 1982, a span during which Spinucci was under the tutelage of master carpenter Bobby Holmes, a guy who could do it all from framing to finish.”That was when I worked along side Bobby with various contractors from the Boston area. Bobby was my mentor, no doubt about it,” said Spinucci, 47, whose jobs take him around the North Shore. “He taught me a lot.”Today, M.S. Construction is celebrating a quarter century in business. The company has a fabricating shop in Lynn for custom woodworking and an office in the Sunset Road, Nahant, home where Spinucci lives with his wife, Emily, and two sons, Michael, 21, and Danny, 19, both of whom have roles in the family business. The work fleet is no longer a single pickup. It includes four trucks and a box trailer. Lead carpenter Tommy Glover, who has been with Spincucci for 21 years, often runs the work day crew.”Tommy has been with me almost since Day 1. He’s a big part of the business. And Michael, he was born with a hammer in his hands,” said Spinucci, referring to his eldest son who attended the construction management program at Vermont Tech. “I have remodeled restaurants and bars, installed vinyl and wood siding, done historic restoration work and built entire homes. I guess it’s in the blood. My grandfather Joseph, and my uncle Louie, were both cabinet makers from Italy.”Since Michael Spinucci returned from school in Vermont, the business has been able to offer computer-generated floor plans and elevation plans. “We’re a design-build company. We design it on paper and build it,” said Michael Spinucci. “I did six different drawings for a recent client so that they could pick the one they liked.”How is it working alongside dad?”I was in 6th grade at the Johnson School when I worked on my first job, which was helping to side a house. Before that, I would go to the job sites after school to pick up tools and clean up,” he said. “I started working full time for my father in my sophomore year. Just like him, I’m also a graduate of Lynn Tech.”M.S. Construction completed projects include the historic restoration of the Nahant Dory Club and the interior renovations of the Mount Vernon at The Wharf restaurant in Revere.”I often do work at area churches. We’re mostly a remodeling company and kitchens are my specialty,” Spinucci said.Meanwhile, younger son Danny Spinucci has graduated from North Shore Technology High School in Middleton where he studied carpentry and has begun pursing college courses in construction management. For more on M.S.
