BEVERLY – On American Idol, Anthony Fedorov wowed audiences with his ability to belt out a song, and now he is bringing his talent to North Shore Music Theatre.Fedorov, 25, will play David in the NSMT production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” which opens at NSMT on Aug. 3.Fedorov, who is making his NSMT debut in this production, catapulted to fame when he was one of the four finalists in the fourth season of “American Idol.” Since the show, Fedorov has been working on his debut album and touring in the United States and Europe. His musical theater credits include the off-Broadway production of “The Fantasticks.”The Brooklyn resident said he looks forward to performing at a theater-in-the-round.”I hear a lot of good things about the stage at North Shore Music Theatre,” he said. “I’ve never performed in the round.”Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s entertaining family musical retells the biblical story of Joseph, his devoted father, his jealous brothers and his incredible adventures. Filled with spectacular costumes and high-energy dance numbers, the story is told through a variety of music styles ranging from country to calypso to rock. Fedorov said his favorite song in the show is “Close Every Door.””It’s such an intense number and the song has a real message,” he said. “Joseph is willing to sacrifice himself for the happiness of others. It takes me to a dark and serious place.”I never went to school for acting or theater,” he said. “But music and musical theater are my primary choices so I’m really enjoying what I’m doing and have been learning a lot.”NSMT owner Bill Hanney, who doubles as a producer, said the NSMT is continuing its tradition of offering quality family summer entertainment.”Producing Artistic Director Evans Haile and I chose Joseph based on its enormous popularity in the past at NSMT,” he said. “We know director/choreographer Jayme McDaniel will deliver a spectacular, high-energy production for families to enjoy together.”The show includes a chorus comprised of 20 children from the North Shore including Marblehead resident Delia Smith, Harrison Gray of Peabody and Brandon Barbosa of Revere.”The children add so much to this musical,” Hanney said. “And they will gain valuable experience performing in a professional stage show.”The production is at NSMT Aug. 3- 22 and tickets are $35-$65.
