LYNN – Three months after a fire closed Angelina?s Sub Shop, owners of the landmark eatery at the corner of Western Avenue and Washington Street are planning to re-open with a brand new look sometime in August.Owners Maria and Bill Koumoundouros looked at the tragedy as a chance to remodel the establishment.?It?s a good opportunity to do a brand new store,” Maria said. “New look, brand new equipment, we?re doing everything up to code.”And the new Angelina?s will have something the old one lacked n air conditioning.?We?re making everything better,” Maria said. Two things that will not change, she said, are the shop?s loyal employees and the sandwiches that have kept customers smiling and satisfied for six decades.?The store has been open for 60 years. We?ve been making the subs like the people who owned the store 25 years ago told us to do it. They told us keep it the same way and (we would) be successful, and that?s what we?ve done,” Maria said. The owners have been in close contact with their employees since the fire and all are anxiously awaiting their return to work.Customers, too, are eagerly anticipating the re-opening.The Koumoundouroses n who have consistently donated to community causes over the years – say they?ve received hugs and phone calls from well-wishers daily.?The community has been phenomenal,” Maria said. “The response I?ve been getting from the people I?ve seen and people leaving messages, it?s way beyond my imagination – way beyond.?And City Hall has been great to us,” she added, “getting our permits and everything. I could be in tears talking about how people have supported us.”The Daily Item has also received letters from Angelina?s customers. One, Edward J. Julien of Lynn, wrote, “Not only does Angelina?s provide its customers with quality food at reasonable prices, the owners and employees are extremely pleasant and diligent workers. Like hundreds of other Angelica?s customers throughout the North Shore, I look forward to its reopening.”It?s that strong response from longtime customers and friends that keeps the Koumoundouroses from worrying about their return.?We are looking forward to opening up and giving people a sandwich they?ve been wanting since they were little,” Maria said.
