The Daily ItemBOSTONIt’s said that in 1974 when Boston Pops conductor Arthur Fiedler was informed that there would be cannons, church bells, and fireworks accompanying his orchestra’s rendition of Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture,” he said, “All Hell could break loose.”All Hell will break loose once again this July 4 when the Boston Pops, lead by Keith Lockhart, join up with country star Toby Keith for the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular. The event will be hosted by late-night comedian Craig Ferguson.The event will take place on the Esplanade, an area next to the Charles River that includes the Hatch Shell and the Oval. The Oval is a restricted area between the concession area that will be present on the day of the event, and also on the rehearsal day that takes place on July 3 – when the musical talent will warming up live for the true event the next day.On July 4, the Oval will open at 9 a.m. Upon admission to the free festivities, a person will receive a bracelet that will allow them to travel freely in and out of the Oval. However, once the Oval is full, no more will be admitted.The concert begins at 8:30 p.m. with the National Anthem. At 9:30 p.m., the Pops will play the famous “1812 Overture”, followed by fireworks at 10:30 p.m. The Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular will end at 11 p.m.It is recommended for those going in and out of Boston on July 3 and 4 to use public transportation, via the MBTA commuter rail and subway systems. The MBTA provides extra bus and subway service on July 4. The two closest T-stations on the Boston side are Charles-MGH on the Red Line, and Arlington Street on the Green Line. On the Cambridge side, the Kendall and Central Square stations on the Red Line are nearby. On July 4 after 10:30p.m., all MBTA buses, trains, and commuter rails will be free to the public.DANVERSFireworks Festival Saturday, July 3 (rain date Monday, July 5), 4-9:30 p.m., sponsored by the Danvers Family Festival, at Plains Park, Holten Richmond Middle School.Stage show begins at 4 p.m. DJ Chris Culkeen will be playing music, a capella singers Similar Jones and musical performers will take the stage through the early evening hours. Bring your blankets and chairs and come down for music, dancing, fun, food, games and rides for the kids. At 7 p.m. there will begin the patriotic program in honor of our men and women who serve. We will ask all to join us on the stage with our Civil Air Patrol color guard and members of Operation Troop Support. The winner of Danvers Idol will perform at 8:30 p.m.; winner of 50/50 raffle announced at 9 p.m. NOTE: Alcohol prohibited in public areas, all coolers will be checked. Handicapped parking is available in the Danversbank parking lot on a first come/first serve basis. No tarps or rocks on the field because they ruin the turf. Lynn Shore Drive and surrounding streets will Close at 7:30 p.m. and remain closed until after the show. The Fireworks Display Begins at 9 p.m. Best viewing is usually along Lynn Shore Drive and the Humphrey Street area in Swampscott.MABRLEHEADThe Harbor Illumination is scheduled to start at 8:45 p.m. July 4, when flares are lit all around the perimeter of the harbor, creating a magnificent ring of light that sets the stage for the main event: at about 9 p.m. or a few minutes thereafter the fireworks are launched off a barge at the mouth of Marblehead Harbor, which creates ideal viewing opportunities for the public from the parks at Fort Sewall, Chandler Hovey Park, and Crocker Park, as well as for boaters, yacht club members at the five clubs that are located around the harbor as well as several private residences all around the harbor and Marblehead Neck.High
