The Daily ItemLYNN – An actress with local ties is appearing at the Colonial Theatre in Boston May 4-16. Academy Award winner Estelle Parsons, 82, picured in center with Angelica Torn, left, and Lubby George – plays Violet in the award winning production “August: Osage County.” Parsons was the child of a Marblehead politician and when she was 21 she was elected to the town’s Planning Board. She also attended a year of law school and worked in the news business before making her mark as a performing artist. Parsons plays Violet in this production, which is the role she played when the show was on Broadway from June 2008 through May 2009. Violet is the matriarch of the Weston family of Pawhuska, Oklahoma. The large extended and frequently dysfunctional clan comes together at their rural Oklahoma homestead after the alcoholic patriarch disappears. Forced to confront unspoken truths and astonishing secrets, the family must also contend with Violet, a pill-popping, deeply unsettled woman at the center of the storm.
