MARBLEHEAD ? The annual “Evolutions” event was created seven years ago by North Shore artists to connect potential buyers of contemporary art with artists.The Labor Day weekend event has been a hit with connoisseurs of art and music since its inception.Organizer Dick Buckley said the “Evolutions” theme allows participating artists to exhibit older and recent works that demonstrate how their styles and approaches have evolved over time.A myriad of performing artists will be appearing throughout the weekend.The Rolling Few, which is made up of a group of friends from Swampscott and Marblehead, is scheduled to kick off the live performances at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5. Chris Coyle, Jerry Powers, Mike DeBoer, John Doucet and Jeff Baker make up the versatile rock cover band. Singer/songwriter Ted Sink, who has performed at the annual event for the last two years, will take the stage at 2 p.m. He will be followed by Marblehead native Heather Tobin, who is a blues singer and songwriter.On Sunday, Sept. 6, singer/songwriter Donald Tower, who has been writing and recording since he was 16, will take the stage with Jane Baldridge at 1 p.m. Tower will be followed by 12-year-old vocalist Hayley Reardon, who will also be appearing at the Boston Folk Festival this Fall.The Jazz Navigators led by Marblehead resident Tim Curtin are scheduled to perform at 4 p.m.The art in the exhibit runs the gamut from acrylics to oils and sculpture.Dick Buckley, who is the organizer of the Evolutions art exhibits, was educated at Vesper George, Harvard University and The School of the Museum of Fine Arts. He is a former department chairman at Boston’s New England School of Art and he also served as a faculty member and administrator at the University of New Hampshire. His paintings have been exhibited in the Worcester Museum of Fine Arts, the Berkshire Museum of Art, the De Cordova Museum and in Boston’s John F. Kennedy Building.Bob Bartlett, who studied at UNH, describes his work as “graceful, kinetic constructs that stimulate the imagination.” His work has been seen on NBC’s Today Show.Frank Costantino, an award-winning architectural illustrator for 35 years, is also an accomplished watercolor painter. He paints urban scenes, land and seascapes, still life, birds, animals and figures.”Evolutions ’09” will be held Sept. 5 and 6 from 11-5 at 280 Ocean Ave. on Marblehead Neck.Other visual artists, who will be displaying and selling their artwork, include Jesa Damora, Carol Dearborn, Meghan Gargano, Richard Gilson, Michiko Imai, Mark Malloy, Paul McMahan and Mark Wholey.
