You can catch several free flicks on July 16 at first Central Square Collaborative Third Thursday International Film Night.Third Thursday Coordinator Cynthia Woo said the the film festival is designed to celebrate the diversity in Lynn and showcase the talents of local film makers.”New Year Baby” will be shown at LynnArts, 25 Exchange St., at 5:15 p.m. The one hour award-winning Cambodian-American documentary won numerous awards at film festivals throughout the country.Lowell resident Socheata Poeuv said the film traces her journey from a Thai refugee camp to Lynn.”I was born on Cambodian New Year in a Thai refugee camp and my parents never told me how I got there,” she said. “‘New Year Baby’ is my personal documentary – a search for the truth about how my family survived the Khmer Rouge genocide and why they buried the truth for so long.”Poeuv said the film is inspiring and empowering.”We want to move and inspire Americans and the world with this story of love, joy and pardon,” she said. “Our promise is to share New Year Baby with 100 million people in 10 years transforming a conversation of victimhood and shame into one of heroism & honor.”At LynnArts audiences can also view the Russian classic ” The White Sun of the Desert” at 6:30 p.m. The 1970 film tells the story of Fyodor Ivanovich Sukhov, a soldier in the Red Army fighting the Russian Civil war, who protects the famous bandit Black Abdullah.At the Lynn Museum, 590 Washington St., there will be a screening of “Old Places, New Faces” at 6 p.m. The film is the latest project of the Peabody Essex Museum’s Museum Action Corps, a group of students aged 16-21. The film documents the experiences in immigrant communities on the North Shore including Lynn. Sokleang Keo, who is a senior at Lynn Classical High School, was insturmental in making the film along with Salem residents Melissa Miranda, Geraldy Olea and Martin Ozoria-Polanco.It’s kids night at Raw Art Works, 37 Central Square where a montage of kid friendly short films will be shown from 5:15- 6:45 p.m. The screening will include shorts created by Raw Arts Students along with Pixar shorts.The galleries at LynnArts, exhibits at the Lynn Museum and Raw Arts will be open from 5-8 p.m. and , local restaurants will be offering specials throughout the evening.Additional information is available at thirdthursdayslynn.com or by calling 781-598-5244.
