A win in any matchup between English and Classical can go a long way toward ending the season on a high note and this year, it was the English boys track team and the Classical girls track team who went home happy.English won the boys meet, 68-59, led by Ricky Kimber, who took first in the 400 hurdles (59.0) and the 110 hurdles (15.8). Camy Ducasse won the 400 (52.6) and triple jump (39-11); Jesse Birotte, the 800; Chris Birotte, the mile; Alex Santos, the two-mile and Jesse Fowler, the long jump, 20-2. Kordel Latimer took second in the 400 hurdles and 800 and Matt Blaney was second in the two-mile.Classical also had some nice performances. Calvin Harris won the 100 (11.4) and 200 (22.9); Chevere Archer, the high jump (6-1) Danny Omoreggie, the shot put (42-8); Dexter Dowe, the discus (119 feet). The Rams won the 4×400 with Rafael Garcia, Marven-Rhode Hyppolite, Cristian Lopez and Jaquan Huston. Classical also won the 4×100 relay.GIRLS TRACKClassical 82, English 43At Manning Field, Classical’s Katie Thongchanh won the 400 hurdles with a personal best 73.9 and the 100 hurdles (18.8); Allison Kurpiel won the two-mile (14:14.3) and Karla Bermudez finished second (15:22.3); Karen Perez won the 100 (13.1, pb); Hulerie McGuffie took second in the 400 with a personal best of 62.1 and Le Nguyen won the 800 (2:51.7).English had wins from Bianca Fowler in the high jump (5-1) and the 400 (60-1) and Shakira Llewellyn, the 200 (27.4) and the discus. English also won both relays.GIRLS TRACKNorth Reading 94, Lynnfield 51At North Reading, the Pioneers (2-8) had a pair of double-winners: Scout Benson, 400 (68.3) and long jump (15-11 1/2); and Meaghan Goodwin, 400 (60.5) and 200 (27.3).Justina Padovani won the 100 hurdles (17.1). She also had her best career time in the 400 hurdles (70.7). She finished second to Benson. Briana Leaziere ran her best career time in the 100 (12.8) and finished second.SOFTBALLPeabody 8, Revere 3At Peabody, the Tanners (11-5) scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back. Emily Milewska (2-for-2, RBI) and Katie Brunelle (3-for-4, 2 runs) powered the offense while Nicole Wilson took care of business from the circle, allowing six hits, three runs, one earned, one walk and four strikeouts.Danvers 11, Gloucester 0At Gloucester, the Falcons (19-0) never leave home without their bats, as the Fishermen found out. Janelle Saggese (3-for-3, 2 RBI, run); Hannah Demirdogen (2-for-2, 2 RBI, 2 runs); Justine Pratt (2-for-4, 2 RBI, run) and Jillian Carroll (2-for-4, 2 RBI, run) led the attack. Diana Bean (3 hits, 3 strikeouts, 1 walk, 1 hit batsman) got the win.Salem 5, Beverly 0At Mack Park, Sarah Chasse only allowed four hits, struck out eight and walked three as the Witches (12-7) defeated the Panthers for the second time this season. Beverly loaded the bases in the sixth with two outs, but Chasse got a popup to end one of the few threats.Salem was led offensively by Chasse (2-for-3, RBI, run); Julia Jennings (hit, 2 runs scored); and Ashley White (2-for-3, stolen base).N. Reading 14, Lynnfield 1At Lynnfield, Rachele Milordi (7 innings, 8 hits, 2 strikeouts, 4 walks, 6 earned runs) took the loss. Katie Rowe went 3-for-4 with Meaghan MacNichol, Kyleigh Gaff, Milordi and Jackie Papagni providing the rest of the offense. Lynnfield ended its season 6-12.In other softball action, Saugus defeated Winthrop at Saugus.
