The St. Mary’s softball team is off to a robust 7-0 start thanks to a 4-0 win over Austin Prep Monday at Breed.The Spartans scored two runs in the first inning and two in the sixth to put this one away. Maria Nazzaro drove in Kristina Burri on a line drive that found its way through the right side of the infield and then scored on an Erin McAndrews sacrifice fly.Sam Kiley walked in the sixth inning and Burri singled to put runners on second and third. Nazzaro came through again, this time with a single to left that scored Kiley’s pinch runner, Chelsey Paone. Burri, however, was thrown out at the plate. Nazzaro ended up scoring on a passed ball for the 4-0 final.Kiley picked up the win, allowing five hits, walking two and striking out three. Third baseman Jenna Fraher supplied the leather at third base with seven putouts/assists.Revere 5, Lynnfield 2At Lynnfield, the Patriots (3-4) came out swinging. Junior left fielder Jenna Carrabino (2-for-3) had a single and a base-clearing triple, while Kristen DeCandia went 2-for-3 and scored two runs. She also came up big in centerfield in the final inning. Lynnfield had the bases loaded and two outs when Katie Rowe hit a rocket to center. DeCandia made a nice grab on one hop and then threw to second for the force and the final out of the game. Paige Licata (3-for-4, double, run) and Kelleigh Prince (2-for-4, double, RBI) also contributed. Sara Selevitch picked up the win (7 innings, 4 hits, 1 earned run, 2 strikeouts). She also had two hits and scored a run.This was Lynnfield’s (2-3) third straight loss. Meaghan MacNichol broke up Selevitch’s no-hit bid with a single in the fifth. Christina Moccia (single, run) and Katie Rowe (RBI single, run) supplied the offense. Sam Harris (2-2) took the loss.Winthrop 21, Williams 5Viking shortstop Courtney Finn had a big day at the plate with two home runs, a double, two walks and four RBI. Lindsey Barker had a pair of singles, a double, two walks, and four RBI and Ashley Fiandaca had a hit, walked four times and scored four runs. Pitcher Angela Pettee allowed four hits and struck out four in four innings. Alex Ferry finished up in relief.AC 5, Fenwick 1At Peabody, the game was scoreless heading into the fourth inning, but a walk, two hits and error led to three Arlington Catholic runs. The score was 3-1 heading into the sixth, but again an error and two hits proved costly.Alyssa Begin (6 hits, 3 earned runs) took the loss. Fenwick is 3-3 (3-2 Catholic Central League).
