The Lynn English baseball team came into Saturday’s game at Fraser Field against Salem having outscored its opponents, 50-15, en route to wins in its first four games. And the story wouldn’t change against the Witches and coach Jim Tgettis in his return to Lynn after stepping aside from the Classical coaching post a year ago.Brian Maynard’s three-run homer in the bottom of the first set the tone as English pounded out 17 hits en route to a 14-4 win that saw six different players drive in runs.”Brian has been swinging the bat really well lately,” English coach Joe Caponigro said.Maynard finished the game 3-for-5 with four RBI while first baseman Eric Bransfield added a 2-run homer in the second. Catcher Roberto Reyes was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored with leadoff batter Esteban Paula going 3-for-3 with four runs scored.English led 10-2 after three innings before Salem closed to 10-4 in the fifth. The Bulldogs added four runs in the bottom of the fifth to close the scoring.Sam Hill got the win for English, working the first five innings with five strikeouts and one walk. Gabe Smith pitched two scoreless innings to close things.Beverly 2, St. Mary’s 0At Cooney Field in Beverly, Ethan Trout allowed just two hits as the Panthers (5-1) turned three double plays and scored runs in the second and fifth innings to best the Spartans.”(Trout) had great command of his fastball and threw his breaking ball for strikes,” Beverly coach Dave Wilbur said.St. Mary’s had chances in each of the first three innings against Trout but the Panther defense turned a double play each time to defuse the threats. Beverly took the lead in the second on Frankie Messina’s RBI single and added an insurance run in the fifth on Austin Butler’s base hit.Mike Scanlon went the first three innings for St. Mary’s, allowing one earned run on four hits. Matt Turmenne threw the final three, allowing an unearned run and striking out four.Lynnfield 11, Triton 7At Lynnfield, the Pioneers (3-4) were in a 7-1 hole entering the bottom of the fourth inning but rallied to score the game’s last 10 runs to get the win.Click here for a photo gallery.”I was proud of the kids; they hung in there and the guys came through with big hits,” Lynnfield coach John O’Brien said.The Pioneers scored four times in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 7-5 before exploding for six runs in the fifth to take the lead for good. John Caruso had three hits and three RBI to lead the Lynnfield offense.Dante Padovani had a pair of hits and an RBI along with Ty Surrette. Garrett McNeill drove home three runs for Lynnfield.Revere 7, Newton South 6At East Boston, tourney MVP Dom Terenzi hit a walk-off solo shot with one out as the Patriots (2-4) won the title game of the Strike Out Colon Cancer Classic. Proceeds benefit Boston Medical Center; the East Boston coach’s wife is a colon cancer survivor. Those present for the tournament included Boston mayor Thomas Menino and former Red Sox prospect Greg Montalbano – who has struggled with cancer himself.Terenzi was 3-for-4 with a solo homer and two RBI in the finals as Revere came back from a 6-1 deficit. Brenden Carter (2 IP, 5 K) got the win in relief.Revere 8, East Boston 2At East Boston on Saturday, Chris Mastropietro was 2-for-3 with a homer, double and five RBI to lead Revere to the win. Nick DiMare struck out seven in a complete-game effort.Fenwick 9, Matignon 1At Fenwick, the Crusaders (7-0) had 14 hits, with Rich Dulkis going 3-3 with three RBI; Pat Holleran getting three hits; Dale Crispin getting two hits; and Andrew Guido improving to 3-0 with the win.
