There were a lot of new faces in new places for the Classical softball team on Wednesday in its season opener at Cambridge. The Rams had four freshmen and seven new starters against the Falcons, yet the result was one that coach Chris Warren could be pleased about.Jenny Garrity and Katie Cuozzo combined for a one-hitter on the mound and the Rams used an explosive offense to dismiss the Falcons, 14-0.”It was a great team effort,” Warren said. “We were able to clear the bench and everyone got a little experience.”No. 9 hitter Katie Fitzgerald led the Classical offense, going 2-for-2 with a run scored and four RBI. Freshman Jennie Erekson was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI and Hannah Byrne went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI.Rachel Carroll was 2-for-3 with a run driven in and Jill Adams was 3-for-6 and scored a run.Revere 9, Somerville 5At Hill Park, the Patriots (2-0) rode the arm of freshman pitcher Briana Lauletta, who picked up her first high school win. She had plenty of support from Paige Licata (4-for-4, triple, 4 RBI); Kristen Gravallese (hit, 2 runs, 2 walks) and Kat Prince (2-for-3, double, RBI).Masco 17, Gloucester 5At Gloucester, Lani Gannon went 3-for-3 with an RBI and Savannah Jacobs had a triple and two RBI, but the Fishermen, who lost their pitcher to graduation, had a rocky outing on the other side of the ball. They play Newburyport today.BOYS TRACKSwampscott 76, Beverly 55At Swampscott, the Big Blue fared well in the distance events with Jake Scott winning the two-mile (11:08) and Sammy Rakoc the mile (4:43). James Payen won the shot put (39-4); Jermaine Kelley the 100 high hurdles (18.9); Kimson Jean, 200 meters (23.5) and Dave Wilson, javelin (118-10). Oliva Narcessa, Jean, Joey Nigro and Payen combined to win the 4×400 relay (48.5).Marblehead 87, Salem 49At Marblehead, the Magicians (1-0) had 10 first-place finishes led by double winners Jacob Evanter, 400-meter hurdles (64.6) and 110 hurdles (15.9), and Nolan Raimo, triple jump (36-1) and long jump (17-7). Tucker Reece won the two-mile (10:42); Ross Peterson, the mile (4:56); Will Herlihy, the 400 (54.9); Taariq Allen, the high jump (5-10); Marcell Hartmon, the shot put (33-8) and Ned Breed, the javelin (99-4).GIRLS TRACKBeverly 81, Swampscott 51At Swampscott, Lindsay Walsh won the two-mile (11:36) and Amelia Antrim the mile (5:35), but Beverly pulled this one out. The Big Blue’s other winners were Erica Mazman in the long jump (15-31/4) and the 4×400 relay, which included Nikki Gateman, Antrim, Hannah King and Caryssa King (5:01).Marblehead 76, Salem 60At Marblehead, Sarah Bittermann was a triple winner for the Magicians (1-0), taking firsts in the 400 hurdles (70.4) and the long jump (13-10). She tied with teammate Maura Tubridy for first in the high jump (4-6).Marblehead also had firsts from Gretchen Rowe, 800 (2:35); Madeline Piela, mile (5:49); Bridget Forbes, two-mile (12:56) and Maggie McMullen, triple jump (33-1/4). The Magicians won both relays.
