The English High girls basketball team is one win away from running the table in the Northeastern Conference.The Bulldogs defeated Beverly, 50-37, Tuesday to improve to 15-0 in the NEC (17-2 overall). They wrap up their conference schedule Thursday against Classical at Classical.Jeanette Anderson had the hot hand once again for English, scoring 15 points and pulling down 19 rebounds. Jenicia Duggins (11 points) and Kayla Murkison (10 points) also contributed offensively. Beverly’s Megan Chatellier had eight points.Peabody 49, Classical 27At Classical, the Tanners (8-10, 8-8 Northeastern Conference North) jumped out early with 19 points in the first quarter and never looked back. Janelle Rodriguez and Ginny Fleming led the way with 11 points each and Kerrie O’Shea had 10, all in the first quarter. The Tanners also got some help on the boards from Brittany LeFave, Julia Kayal and Katie Tsapatsaris (6 points), who each had six rebounds.The Rams (7-12) struggled offensively. Frances Mathieu finished with seven points and eight rebounds, Diamond Doe had 11 rebounds and Hannah Byrne had eight rebounds.The Peabody freshman team, coached by Stan McKeen, finished its season undefeated and the junior varsity finished 15-1.Ipswich 64, Lynnfield 46At Lynnfield, the Pioneers (9-10) put up a good fight against Ipswich, but the Tigers’ size in the frontcourt was too much to stop. Amber Smith, who will be playing Division 1 basketball at the University of Maine next year, scored 19 points for Ipswich and Hannah O’Flynn had 16. The Tiger bench also proved deadly, with Erin Vana nailing three of four from 3-point territory.The Pioneers spread the offense around, with Nicole Crawford scoring 12 points and Jamie Harris and Ali Newell adding 10 each. Newell also had nine rebounds.Greater Lawrence 45, Tech 35At Lynn Tech, the Tigers (2-14) played a solid second half, but couldn’t overcome a 21-point halftime deficit. Fanice Jean-Baptiste scored 13 points and Jenna Kulakowski was good for 12.”It was a good effort against a tournament-bound team,” Tech coach Kevin McDormand said.Tech wraps up its season against Greater Lowell Friday.Danvers 49, Saugus 41At Danvers, the Falcons (11-6) started the season with a 7-1 run, but faltered a bit midway and lost three in a row. They righted the ship and have now won their last four games. Kellie McDonald led the way with 19 points. The Falcons actually trailed by seven at the break, but they kicked it up a notch defensively and started running the floor better to take control in the second half.Salem 63, Revere 51At Revere, the Witches (14-4) had a big night from Louigianna Rijo (17 points) and Ashley White and Erica Mendez (13 points each). Mendez also did a nice job guarding Revere’s big gun, Morgan Jenkins, who finished with 11 points.
