You would think holding Classical sharpshooters Jarell Byrd and Jasper Grassa to 11 and 12 points, respectively, would put a serious ding in the Rams’ attack, but as the Beverly High boys found out, it wasn’t quite enough.Cam Smith (23 points) picked up the slack nicely and the result was a 74-65 win for the Rams. Beverly was in this one most of the game, trailing by one at the half and four at the end of three quarters. The fourth quarter was the key, however, as Classical (14-4) delivered the goods on four trips down the court and the Panthers (10-5) came back empty-handed each time. Nate Knudson had 19 points for Beverly with Curtis Manuel (15 points), Justin Resse (12 points) and Mike Clayton (10 points, 6 assists) rounding out the list of top guns.Byrd had 20 rebounds, Tony Wonde had 11 points and Chris Francois shored up the defense for the Rams.Revere 54, Peabody 48At Revere, the Patriots (8-9) kept their state tournament hopes alive in dramatic fashion, outscoring Peabody 30-17 in the fourth quarter to get the win.Paul Cinelli led the Revere attack with 15 points. Trae Weathers added 14 and Ruben Vargas chipped in with 13.Ryan English was the game’s high scorer, finishing with 18 in a losing effort for Peabody. Josh Boyce added 10 for the Tanners.Lynnfield 57, Northeast 47At Lynnfield, John Mehr had a game-high 29 points to go with his 17 rebounds to lead the Pioneers (9-7). Matt Connolly got 11 out of his 18 points from the charity stripe. Lynnfield needs only one more win to clinch a tournament berth.Essex Aggie 41, Norfolk 36At Norfolk Aggie, junior Keith Mercurio of Lynn scored 20 points, including four threes, for Essex Aggie (6-7).GIRLS BASKETBALLPeabody 62, Revere 51At Peabody, the Tanners (7-9, 7-7 NEC) had a big fourth quarter (23 points) to finally put Revere in the rear-view mirror. Janelle Rodriguez (16 points, 4 blocks, 4 assists) topped the ticket for Peabody with Ginny Fleming (10 points); Jill Rizzo (8 points) and Brittany Lefave (10 rebounds) also helping out. Kelleigh Prince shot 11-for-12 from the free-throw line and finished with 19 points.Gloucester 51, Marblehead 25At Marblehead, the Fishermen (9-6) spread the offense around with Hannah Cain (14 points), Lindsey Rogers (11 points) and Olivia Lufkin (10 points) supplying the bulk of the firepower.
