WORCESTER – The East Lynn Pop Warner B squad came up short in its bid to join its younger teammates in Florida next month.Coach Duke Wilson’s Bulldogs ran into a buzzsaw at Foley Stadium yesterday – the New Haven Steelers, who won the regional title with a 24-0 shutout.Click here for a photo gallery from the game.”They were like the real Steelers,” said East Lynn president Paul McGough. “They were awesome.””But we hung with them,” said Wilson. “We had our opportunities. And they scored on a couple of broken plays in the first half.”We just couldn’t make the plays when we had to.”Gerald Kahari was the mainstay for the ‘Dogs yesterday, with more than 250 all-purpose yards. Also standing out were Choven Pich, David Kazadi, Josh Michel, Charles Collins and Marcos Echevarria.”We really overachieved,” said Wilson. “People in the organization didn’t think we’d win the conference, let alone get this far.”Last year, as C-squadders, they were one game over .500, so to get this far was an accomplishment.”Wilson said the only thing to do from here on out is root on the C team.”They’re going to Florida, and we wish them well,” he said. He’s also looking forward to coaching the ones who move up to the B team next season.”We’ll be awesome,” he said.
