The East Lynn Pop Warner Travel D Team brought an undefeated record of 7-0 into it’s playoff game in Woburn, Saturday morning, against Middlesex League Champion Woburn. The Travel D Squad came up short and suffered their first loss of the season and were eliminated form the playoffs, in a very hard fought, hard hitting game. The D Squad fell behind in the first half when Woburn ran in for a touchdown against the D Squad’s defense, which had only given up six points the entire season.Woburn kicked the extra point, which is very rare at that level and counts as two points in Pop Warner, therefore making the score 8-0. As a result of the kick, the D Squad was then faced with needing to score 2 touchdowns. The Travel D Squad fought hard throughout the day but they were never able to reach the end zone, coming up short on more than one occasion, against a very tough, disciplined defense that stymied the usually explosive offense. The team was led by the same cast that led them the entire year, both on offense and defense, including third year players, QB/LB DJ Mullen, RB/LB Damien Earp and TE/LB Victor Claudio, as well as 2nd year players RB/CB Cody Mullen, RB/CB Calvin Johnson, OG/DE Joe Tardiff, TE/DE Chad Hernandez, OL/DL Terrance Bowers and 1st year players DL/C Mason Jones, OL/DL Frank Perry, OL/DL Justin Lewis and QB/S Jon Kosmas. Also contributing cosistently throughout the year were Mike Brown, Josh Cameron, Dylan Mullen, Tyronne Johnson and Tevin Song. Not playing Saturday were Victor Nwaogu, Alfredo Perez and Pat Bartholomew. The team came toget her Aug. 1 and immediately displayed an intense desire to succeed.
