The St. John’s Prep golf team won the Catholic Conference Thursday with a 235-254 win over BC High at Milton.The Eagles, who are the defending Div. 1 North champions, will play in the D1 North state qualifier Monday at Beverly Golf & Tennis.Nick Velonis was low man for St.John’s, finishing with a 37. Nick McLaughlin shot a 38, Emilio Bardini and Corey Amirault, a 39; Nick Maccario, a 40; and Nick Pandelena, a 42.CAL OpenAT Far Corners in Boxford, Brian Corcoran shot a 79 and tied for fifth place in the Cape Ann League Open. The top nine finishers are considered all-league players.VOLLEYBALLSt. Mary’s 3, Austin Prep 2At Reading, this one came down to the team that made the fewest mistakes down the stretch. Austin Prep won the first two games, 25-20, 25-17. St. Mary’s won the next two, 25-23, 25-20, and the rubber match, 15-8. The loss knocks the Cougars out of tournament contention. St. Mary’s is 7-8 with three games left. The Spartans need to win two to qualify.Spellman 3, Fenwick 2At Brockton, the Crusaders (9-4, 9-3) took Spellman to five games. The Crusaders won the first game, 25-22, lost the second, 21-25, and the third, 12-25, won the fourth, 25-10, and lost the fifth, 6-15. Bridget Dullea played very well at primary setter. Cara McLaughlin had 15 kills and served well and Lauren DiCarlo had 25 kills and contributed strong net play.FIELD HOCKEYMarblehead 1, Saugus 1At Seaside Park, Julia Burke scored on a pass from Maggie McMullen nine minutes into the game to put the Magicians (4-5-6) on the board. Saugus tied the game on a goal by Amanda McTeague with 17 minutes remaining. Marblehead sweeper Casey Sheehan made a big defensive play near the end to keep the ball from crossing the goal line.Peabody 1, Everett 1At Peabody, Jamie Nocella scored in the first half to put Peabody on top, but Everett came back to tie the game. The Tanners are 3-10-3 with two games remaining. Rebecca Mullen had six saves in the loss.Danvers 5, Swampscott 2At Danvers, the Big Blue (9-3-3) took one on the chin despite the efforts of Courtney Fletcher and Kristin Santanello, who both scored. Alex Wilson had two assists.
