Tech’s Yerlin Guevara and Classical’s Rafael Rosa each had a hat trick to lead their respective soccer teams to wins Tuesday.The Tigers defeated Minuteman, 6-1, in Lexington, and the Rams topped Beverly, 5-2, at Manning Field.In Lexington, the Tigers (4-4-1, 4-2 Commonwealth Conference) came out flying, and by the half, they led 4-0 thanks to two goals by Richard Jones-Alas (2 goals, 1 assist), one by Guevara and one by Gustavo Rodrigues, who scored off a corner by Anthony Rodriguez. Guevara scored both second-half goals, with assists from Klaus Alexis and Pedro Blas. Elmer Vincente also had an assist.”It was good to score early,” Tech coach Fred Gallo said, adding that this was his team’s third win in a row. Kevin DeLeon was in net for the win.Classical 5, Beverly 2At Manning Field, Rosa scored all three of his goals in the second half to give the Rams (6-2-2) a little breathing room. Beverly (0-6-2) had taken a 1-0 lead on a goal by Mike Collins, but Classical’s Miguel Castro tied it with the assist going to Carlos Cifuentes (3 assists). Juan DeLeon scored from Rosa (3 goals, 1 assist to give Classical a 2-1 lead, but Beverly’s Brad Surette came up with the equalizer. Jake Petronzio assisted on both Beverly goals.The second half belonged to Rosa and the Rams. Cifuentes assisted on two of Rosa’s goals and Cristian Lopez on the other. Jeffrey Chaney anchored the defense.”Both halves we started out slow, but we picked up the momentum,” Classical coach Joe Skahan said.English 2, Winthrop 1At Winthrop, the Bulldogs (5-3-3) took the lead on a goal by Mubarak Nyang (Ashani Nelson assist) 15 minutes into the game and went up 2-0 when Eddie Roman scored five minutes into the second half. Kevin Garduno had the assist. Winthrop cut the lead to one with 10 minutes remaining, but English successfully fended off the Vikings down the stretch.”We controlled most of the game,” English coach Kerry King said. “We carried play throughout most of the game; we just didn’t do a good job of finishing.”Daniel Cordoba (4 saves) was in net.Spellman 3, St. Mary’s 0At Brockton, the Spartans played a much better second half than first, but it was too little too late against the Catholic Central League Large leader. Fenwick outshot the Cougars, but couldn’t penetrate the wall. Conor McCormack played well defensively for the Crusaders. Brian McConnell was in net.Revere 0, Everett 0At Revere, the Patriots turned in a stellar defensive effort, led by Alfonso Rosales, against a tough Everett team. Revere is 5-1-4.GIRLS SOCCERBeverly 5, Classical 0At Beverly, the Rams (1-7-3) tried to keep the momentum going from Monday’s 0-0 tie against Gloucester, but didn’t have much luck. Classical, playing without several senior starters due to injury and illness, found itself trailing 3-0 by the half. Beverly (3-4-1) had goals by Sky Cowans, Katie Carlotto, Bridget Leahy, Daryl Powell and Monica Cassola.Classical coach Marcy Durgin was happy with the play of freshman goalie Mackenzie Coppinger, who took over for an ailing Sochitta Men.
