It’s always a battle when Swampscott and Marblehead meet in field hockey and Thursday’s showdown was no exception. The game ended in a 1-1 tie.Marblehead scored first on a goal by Lindsay Franklin 17 minutes into the game (Courtney Marsh assist). Swampscott’s Taylor Maccario tied things up with two minutes left in the first half (Alex Wilson assist). The Big Blue had its chances in the second half, but had two goals called back, the last one coming on a controversial call with two minutes remaining.Kristin Santanello appeared to have scored in the final minutes, but the officials didn’t immediately make the call. The play stopped, they conferred and called it a goal. Marblehead coach Linda Collins protested the call and after conferring again, the officials reversed the decision because one of the officials said she had whistled the play dead before the goal.Marblehead is 2-4-3 and the Big Blue are 5-1-3.Saugus 0, Malden 0At Malden, the Sachems (2-3-4) spent plenty of time in front of the Malden net, but nothing found its way in.
