Classical’s dynamic duo of Carlos Cifuentes and Miguel Castro proved nearly unstoppable Friday in a 6-2 win over Saugus at Hood Park.Cifuentes scored the first three goals to give the Rams a 3-1 lead at the half, and Castro supplied the next two. Abdoulaye Bay accounted for the final goal.Classical coach Joe Skahan said the Rams (5-1-1) are off to their best start in a long time.”We’ve been playing very well so far this season,” Skahan said.Castro, who also had an assist, has 10 goals and three assists so far this season. Cifuentes, who also had an assist, upped his total to seven goals and four assists. Paul Buccheri, Christian Lopez and Rafael Rosa also had assists with Jeremy Dorson (13-15 saves) picking up the win.Saugus (1-4) had goals from Carmen Bordonaro and Derek Corderre with K.J. Mills and Tyler Goltus collecting assists.English 1, Marblehead 1At Manning Field, sophomore Billy Graves gave Marblehead (3-1-2) a 1-0 lead late in the first half (Sam Terrill assist), but the Bulldogs (3-3-2) got it back a couple of minutes into the second half when senior Mubarak Nyang (7 goals, 4 assists this season) booted a beauty off his left foot from 20 yards out to secure the tie.”It was a beautiful shot,” Marblehead coach Steve Ingemi said.English coach Kerry King said his team made a couple of mistakes, but overall played well. Alex Alvarez and Chumkuma Halewhati were solid for the Bulldogs on defense.S’scott 2, Salem 2At Salem, the Big Blue (4-0-2) couldn’t shake off a relentless Salem (2-2-1) team. Swampscott took a 1-0 lead on Chris Nenshati’s first of two goals, but Salem’s Mike Steeves tied things up with the assist going to Kevin Hardy. Nenshati scored again to give Swampscott a 2-1 lead, but Salem’s Edwin Demoya made it 2-2 with 12 minutes remaining on a goal off a direct kick. Walter Morrell and Rocky Nenshati also had assists for the Big Blue.Peabody 3, Gloucester 1At Peabody, the Tanners (5-0-0) only lost once in the league last season and it was at the hands of the Fishermen, so this was a game they had circled on this year’s schedule as a must-win. Peabody got right down to business and, by the 17-minute mark, led 3-0 on goals by Matt Quadros, Dominic Mondi and Shawn Cronin. Quadros, Mondi and Chris Neves all had single assists. Gloucester senior captain Alex Trotsky spoiled the shutout with four minutes left in the game.Peabody coach Stan McKeen said he was concerned heading into the season that his team would have trouble putting the ball in the net considering the group of seniors that graduated accounted for 50 goals last year. He didn’t have to worry.”The key for us this year has been getting out early, scoring in the first half,” McKeen said.Beverly 1, Winthrop 1At Beverly, the Vikings haven’t enjoyed much success against Beverly over the years, but they finally managed to take a point with the tie. Winthrop’s Kyle Gagan scored in the seventh minute (Ben Sena assist), but Beverly salvaged the tie on a Mike Collins header into the net. Pat Wilson was in net for the Panthers (0-4-1). Zach Kemmer played well on defense for Beverly. Eric Mendoza (10 saves) was in net for the Vikings (1-6-1).Revere 4, Danvers 0At Revere, Jensy Guzman has had plenty of scoring opportunities this season, but until yesterday, nothing found the net. Guzman broke out with three goals to help the Patriots improve to 3-3. Eric Rivera also scored for Revere while Alphonso Rosales posted the shutout in net.
