The English High boys soccer team is riding high heading into today’s showdown with rival Classical.The Bulldogs pulled out a 1-0 win over Revere Tuesday at Manning Field to improve their record to 3-2-1. Senior Mubarak Nyang scored the lone goal 10 minutes into the game with the assist going to Eddie Roman. “Both teams played excellent,” English coach Kerry King said. “We were pretty evenly matched. This is a very good Revere team and they were coming off a big win against Salem.”Junior Daniel Cordova was a rock in net for English with several big saves. He had plenty of support in front of him from defenders Eric Bransfield and Alex Alvarez.Tech 1, Shawsheen 1At Billerica, Shawsheen scored with 10 minutes left in the first half and kepth the goal advantage until Richard Jones-Alas came up with the game-tying goal with five minutes left in the game.Although happy to come away with the point, Tech coach Fred Gallo is looking for his team to produce a little more offensively.”It goes back to finding the net,” he said. “We’re missing goals, missing opportunities and breaways. We couldn’t finish off.”Tech is home Thursday against Chelsea.Lynnfield 3, Wilmington 3Wilmington 2, Lynnfield 0At Lynnfield, the Pioneers couldn’t muster much offensive against the Wildcats. Lynnfield is 1-2-1 with Triton on tap for Thursday.GIRLS SOCCERRevere 2, English 2At Revere, the Bulldogs (1-3-2) salvaged the tie when Jenna Henry scored in the final minute of the game. English had taken a 1-0 lead on an Ashley Keighley goal in the first half (Stephanie Breault had the assist), but the Patriots came back to tie the game on a free kick and take the lead on a corner kick.English had an abundance of scoring opportunities, including six or seven corners, but couldn’t capitalize. The Bulldogs are without senior midfielder Marina Biondi, who is out for the season with an ACL injury suffered in the game against St. Mary’s. English ‘s Megan Forti is also sidelined for the season with the same injury.Lynnfield 3, Wilmington 3At Wilmington, the Pioneers had to settle for the tie after Wilmington came up with the equalizer with about 30 seconds remaining in the game. Lynnfield (3-0-1) got called for a handball and Wilmington scored on the ensuing free kick.Wilmington scored first seven minutes into the game, but Courtney Marsolais tied things up eight minutes later with the assists going to Whitney Montsanto and Catherine Durant. Scout Benson put Lynnfield up 2-1 on a free kick 28 minutes into the first half, but the Wildcats knotted it at two with a goal off a corner kick.Lynnfield regained the lead at the 70th minute on Benson’s second goal of the night, unassisted, but Wilmington salvaged the tie in the final minute.Mystic Valley 5, Tech 1At Manning Field, Shanel Bird had the lone goal for the Tigers (0-2). Tech trailed 3-0 when she found the net in the second half.Mystic Valley added two more for the 5-1 final. Salone Johnson played well on defense for Tech, which is at PMA Thursday.
