Emily Manoogian went on a four-goal scoring spree Wednesday to lead the Peabody High girls soccer team to a 5-3 win over Salem at Peabody.Although the Tanners (2-0) were up by a comfortable 4-1 margin with about 10 minutes remaining, Salem battled back to close the gap to 4-3 before Manoogian netted her final goal of the day with two minutes remaining.”It was a very close game throughout,” Peabody coach Dennis Desroschers said. “Salem never gave up. Those kids didn’t have any quit in them.”Erika DiGiacomo had the other goal for Peabody with Janelle Gallant, Jasmine Bryant and Jessica Ngo scoring for Salem. Bryant also had two assists and Ngo one assist.Katie Tsapatsaris (10 saves) picked up the win for Peabaody. Freshman Emma Titus (23 saves) was very solid in net for the Witches (1-2).Swampscott 5, Winthrop 3At Winthrop, Marissa Gambale had two goals and an assist to help the Big Blue even its record at 1-1. Winthrop took a 1-0 lead 13 minutes into the game, but Swampscott freshman Kelly Birchmore tied things up. Gambale gave Swampscott the lead, but Winthrop tied the game again on a penalty kick and the teams went into the half tied 2-2.Gambale broke the stalemate with her second goal of the night two minutes into the second half. Jennifer Cleary and Erin Langan added the final two goals, with Langan’s coming on a penalty kick. Tara Nimkar was in net for the win. Carley Hayes, Casey Connolly and Skylar Sabbag each had an assist.Lynnfield 5, Ham.-Wen. 2At Lynnfield, the Pioneers (2-0) found themselves in a hole early when Hamilton-Wenham scored 30 seconds into the game, but they answered the wake-up call with three goals in four minutes from Abby Tobin, Sam Harris and Mackenzie Dolbeare. Lynnfield sharpshooter Jamie Harris padded the lead with two second-half goals, both from Courtney Marsolais, with Scout Benson also picking up an assist. Nicole Crawford and Stephanie LaRosa anchored the defense and Catherine Durant was tough in the middle. The Generals also had a second-half goal.Minuteman 4, Tech 0At Manning Field, the Tigers (0-1) had plenty of scoring opportunities, but nothing found the back of the net. Shanel Bird had five or six good shots and Shaniqua Holcomb put a couple on net. Mah Weah Weah and Malee Slocum split the game in net for the Tigers.Danvers 2, Marblehead 1At Danvers, the Falcons (2-0) scored the game-winning goal early in the second half after the teams battled to a 1-1 tie at the half. Brittany Russo put the Falcons up 1-0 five minutes into the game (Becky Landers assist), but Marblehead’s Sarah Forward came up with the equalizer before the break (Lizzie Whitehill assist). Kasey Kellard and Allison Tivnan split the game in net for Marblehead. Silvi Cohen took the loss for Marblehead (1-1).
