The St. Mary’s volleyball team is experiencing life in the Catholic Central League Large and although the Spartans are off to an 0-2 start with Tuesday’s 3-1 loss to Cardinal Spellman, coach Dave Giarusso isn’t discouraged.Giarusso said he expected the first two matches to be tough and they were. Spellman won the first two games, 25-21, 25-16, before St. Mary’s came back and won the third game, 25-13. Spellman put the match away in the fourth game with a 25-15 win.Andrea Pattella did a nice job serving for the Spartans, while Shannon Reddy anchored the defense and Nicole Hanlon provided solid net play.”The scores weren’t indicative of how well we played,” Giarusso said. “We hung right in there.
