The Saugus High field hockey team only mustered one goal against Salem Thursday, but it was all the Sachems would need in a 1-0 win.Katelyn DeSimone found the net midway through the second half and Saugus goalie Sophia Dipesa held the fort the rest of the way, preserving the shutout. The win evens Saugus’ record at 1-1.Last year, the Sachems qualified for the tournament, won a game and then bowed out to Lynnfield. Coach Barbara Guarente said she lost a lot of players from that team, including her midfield and forward line. Amanda McTague and Kaitlin Hagstrom played well defensively. Nicole Lowe, a forward, and midfielder Macayla Baly also worked hard.Peabody 1, M’head 0At Peabody, Jamie Nocella scored in the first half for the Tanners and the defense, led by Christina Simoes, Andrea Sacardo and Morgan Yeo, stood tall the rest of the way. Kerrie O’Shea picked up the assist. Peabody keeper Rebecca Mullen was busy turning away 13 Marblehead shots.Marblehead coach Linda Collins said her team turned up the heat in the latter part of the second half, but couldn’t capitalize.
