SAUGUS – There will be a new face finding her way around the Waybright School starting today when Linda Arsenault takes over as principal.”I’m very excited,” said Superintendent Richard Langlois. “She will be assuming the position (Tuesday) and is ready for the transition.”Arsenault steps into the role vacated by Glen McKay, who surprised many when he took a job as principal at the Hood School in his hometown of North Reading earlier this summer.Arsenault has a Bachelor of Science degree in Education as well as a Master’s of Education in Educational Administration, both from Salem State College. She also has a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.Langlois said she brings with her extensive administrative experience ranging from elementary to high school. She has been an elementary principal, middle school assistant principal, high school director of curriculum and instruction and supervisor of a transitional program for at-risk children.But she hasn’t always been an administrator. Arsenault also taught at the elementary and middle school level in both a town and urban setting.Colleagues, Langlois added, characterized her as an administrator who sees the big picture.”She has excellent rapport with staff and parents, is fair and equitable, and demonstrates consistent leadership in her role as principal,” he said.”Ms. Arsenault is experienced in all aspects of school governance.”An interview board comprised of school parents, staff, and district administration made the choice of Arsenault unanimously.Langlois said he is hoping to put together a meet and greet for the new principal and her staff prior to school opening and she would be on hand during his meet and greet on Sept. 10 at the Roby School from 2-5 p.m.Langlois, who said he had a number of things on his plate, said he was glad to be able to make the position with confidence and that he expected to officially appoint an athletic director today or Wednesday as well.
