LYNN – LynnArts has announced the details of its first Festival Talent Show to take place at the Meet Me Downtown Festival Sept. 20.Debra Crosby, executive producer of the Talent Quest TV show on Salem Access Cable, will host the talent show, which is open to Lynn children of all ages. Performers can present any act they choose – from music to contortionism – providing the content of the performance is family friendly. Winners will receive an all-admission paid trip to the Talent Quest TV show studios in Salem where they will compete for cash and prizes with other performers from throughout New England.Contestants must pre-register by calling LynnArts and space is limited.The event will also feature over 40 vendors and musical performances, along with free children’s activities including face painting, hand twisted balloons and a moon bounce. The event will take place Saturday, Sept. 20 from 11 a.m. p 4 p.m.Other September events include MISC., a show of mixed media art at the Time Warner Gallery from Sept. 1 to Oct. 18. The show draws entrants from throughout New England who submit both two-dimensional and three-dimensional mixed media work.This year the juror is Salem State College Assistant Professor of Art Ken Reker. Reker has over 15 years of experience teaching art foundation courses and has worked with major art venues across the country.Featured in the gallery is local artist Kaetlyn Wilcox, who will be showing her new work. Wilcox’s work features mixed media paintings inspired by folk tales, fairy tales, family photographs and images of the natural world. Her paintings are done with watercolor on paper, as well as smaller collage drawings that are sewn together in layers. Her work also includes a series of tiny paintings on torn, tea-stained paper and an installation of anthropomorphic bird portraits painted on wooden eggs. Her work will be on display from Sept. 1-18 with an official opening held Sept. 6 from 2-4 p.m.The Third Thursday Central Square 5K Road Race will take place Sept. 18 from 5-8 p.m. beginning downtown and stretching to the city’s waterfront area.Prizes will be awarded in various categories and there will be live music after the race in Central Square, along with a viewing of the exhibit Athletes in Motion at the Lynn Museum.
