SALEM – The silver anniversary Ray Gallant Memorial Tournament got underway Thursday at Forest River Park with a pair of local teams on display. In the tournament opener, Swampscott’s Trevor Massey outdueled Salem’s Jamie Dominguez en route to a 3-2 win.In the nightcap, offense was on full display between Lynn and Danvers and it was Danvers which struck last, overcoming a one-run deficit with a five-run sixth inning to take a 12-8 win.Swampscott and Danvers will play Saturday at 4 p.m. while Lynn and Salem will play in an elimination game Saturday at 11 a.m.In game one, Swampscott took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when David Reichart walked with one out and later scored on Brendan McDonald’s double. Salem tied the game in the bottom of the first when Kelly Abreau walked and eventually scored on Matt Marquez’ base hit.The game stayed tied into the fourth, when Swampscott went ahead for good. Greg Collier and Jake Cassidy singled and were sacrificed up a base by Ryan Cresta. Nunzio Moretti put Swampscott up 3-1 when he doubled to right.Salem cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning as Jared Louf-Woods singled and scored on a hit and an error. After that, Massey slammed the door on Salem.He stranded two runners in the fifth and sixth innings before working a perfect seventh.In game two, Danvers scored twice in the first to take a short-lived lead as Lynn rallied for four runs in the top of the second. Vinnie Capano ripped a two-run double to left, scoring Cory Lazurek and Dan Sullivan. A passed ball scored Rick Swanson before Joshue Perez singled home Capano.Danvers scored single runs in the second and third inning against Swanson to tie the game. Lynn grabbed the lead back in the top of the fourth when Swanson and Capano reached with two outs. An error on Capano’s hit allowed Swanson to score and Capano crossed on a passed ball. Danvers took a 7-6 lead in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run Dylan Dodge single and a passed ball.Lynn tied the game in the fifth on Lazurek’s base hit and then took an 8-7 lead in the sixth on Swanson’s leadoff home run to right, but Danvers didn’t stay behind for long.In the bottom of the sixth, Chris Butler and Dodge singled with Butler scoring on an error to tie the game. Robbie Petrocionne then ripped a two-run homer over the left-field fence to give Danvers a 10-8 lead.Tyler Dustin followed with a single and scored on a pair of passed balls and a double steal. With two outs, left fielder Brendan Mackey put the game out of reach when he homered to left-center for the 12-8 final.”Ricky pitched great. They hit a couple of great pitches that he threw,” Lynn manager Jack Bartlett said. “We just made too many mistakes and a lot of them were mental mistakes.”
