SAUGUS – The Board of Selectmen was bitten by the dog days of summer this week after it had to cancel a meeting due to a lack of quorum. The board was scheduled to set a date for a show cause hearing for the restaurant Oasis and revisit a possible hearing for Tabu Ultra Lounge and Nightclub. With Chairman Donald Wong sidelined by a conflict of interest, one selectmen out of town and another unavailable to meet, that left only two to discuss the issues.Selectman Peter Rossetti said with a new police chief in the mix, it only made sense to postpone the meeting. Police Chief Domenic DiMella just stepped into his new role Saturday.”I guess I’m the only one that wants to meet on this,” said Selectman Stephen Horlick, who asked for the meeting.Horlick and his colleague Stephen Castinetti have already traded barbs over the potential show cause hearings. Castinetti said he feels Horlick has a vendetta against both Tabu and Oasis, while Horlick accused Castinetti of intentionally protecting Oasis.Horlick did concede that the meeting Tuesday would be pointless, but he is not ready to drop the idea of bringing Tabu in for a show cause hearing.”The chief sent a memo,” Horlick said. “He wants to review all the incidents because of what happened over the weekend.”Horlick said once DiMella is familiar with the incidents they will meet, set a date for a show cause on Oasis and determine whether Tabu warrants a show cause. The board initially voted in April to bring Oasis for a hearing, but never set a date. Oasis is in trouble for unruly fights in the parking lot that have injured several people on several different occasions.Tabu has also made police logs, most recently this past weekend. The two incidents included a patron claiming a bouncer punched him in the face and an alleged fight between customers inside the club. Both the hearing date and discussions on Tabu will likely be taken up at the board’s regular meeting Tuesday in Town Hall auditorium at 7:30 p.m.
