LYNN – Old railroad tracks that have lay dormant on Ashland Street for the past 10 years have now been removed, much to the delight of neighbors.Ward 7 City Councilor Richard Ford said he has gotten a lot of positive feedback from neighbors about the track removal.”There’s been a lot of hooting from people as they drive by in their cars,” he said. “They’re all happy we’re getting it done.”Ford said Public Works Commissioner Jay Fink worked alongside him with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) for several years to remove the tracks.DPW is currently reconstructing the street.Long regarded as a sore spot for drivers who had to maneuver over the bumpy road, Fink said the main reason the tracks were removed was for safety. While the tracks start on Boston Street, cross over Summer Street and then run on to Ashland Street, Fink said only the road crossing on Ashland Street would be removed.
