SALEM – A Peabody man who admitted twice stealing clothing from Kohl?s Department store in Danvers last November will spend two and one-half years in jail before being placed on probation for another five years.In Salem Superior Court Friday morning, Joseph Kennedy, 22, of 62 Lowell St., third floor, Peabody, changed his plea of not guilty to guilty, confessing to two counts of larceny under $250 as well as assault with a dangerous weapon and stealing by confining or putting in fear.Judge Howard J. Whitehead imposed the sentence offered by Assistant District Attorney Marsha H. Slingerland and defense lawyer Lawrence J. McGuire.Charges concern two incidents in Danvers, during which Kennedy stole clothing from Kohl?s Department Store on Nov. 10 and Nov. 17.During the last incident he showed a knife and placed a loss prevention female officer in fear as she confronted him.Under the terms of his probation, Kennedy is to refrain from all alcohol use, consume no drugs and consent to random screenings.He has served 126 days in jail awaiting trial and will receive credit for that time towards his term of incarceration.
