SWAMPCOTT ? The circus is coming to town this weekend. On July 20 and July 21 for four shows only the Walker Brothers Circus will be under a big top in Phillips Park in Swampscott.Swampscott Recreation Director Danielle Strauss said the event is sponsored by the Swampscott Recreation Department, which will receive a portion of the proceeds from the event.?We’re always looking for new activities and programs,” she said. It’s a nice alternative to higher priced Boston events.”Strauss said when she was approached by the circus she asked for references in other communities the circus has been in.?I spoke with Rockport and Manchester by the Sea,” she said. “They said the circus has been very successful in their towns and there have not been any problems.”Strauss pointed out the Walker Brothers Circus is more akin to the Big Apple Circus than it is to Ringling Brothers.?They don’t bring any real big animals,” she said. “It’s smaller animals and a lot of human performers including jugglers.”The 90-minute performance is fun for the whole family. The new 2008 edition of the Walker Brothers Circus is packed some of the finest circus acts in the industry. This year’s show features the hilarity of south America’s clown prince of comedy, Lucio and nine-year-old Paulo is sure to astound the audience with his juggling dexterity. The sweetheart of the circus Miss Sashi, presents her royal Friesian, Navarro, in a wonderfully choreographed presentation. Glamour galore fills the center ring with The Walker Bros. liberty pony review. The daring Miss Rebecca will leave you breathless in the clouds. La Francie will astound you in the upper reaches of the big top.On Sunday, July 20 there are shows at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. On Monday, July 21 there are shows at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Strauss said tickets for adults are $14 each and each paying adult can bring two children in free.
