The ECIC is in its second year as a sponsor for the Global Passion Boston trip.”Aside from offering prayer stations, the volunteers also host an ‘Adopt a Block’ program where they will knock on residents’ doors and offer to help them in a variety of ways,” continued Pastor Joshua. “They will do anything from changing a light bulb for an elderly person to raking someone’s yard and cleaning up their driveway.” The volunteers also spent Tuesday afternoon serving food at My Brother’s Table.Located in Napa, Calif., Global Passion Ministries is a religious outreach program that sponsors a series of national and international trips every year that unites youth volunteers from across the country in work that brings them closer to God and each other. In addition to planning the flights, hotels, transportation, and travel requirements to their various locations, the organizers behind Global Passion Ministries pride themselves in doing all this while maintaining their strong pastoral roots.”Though we have 15 years of experience planning safe, impacting mission experiences, we are still pastors first” is posted on their Web site. “We want students to let God work in them and through them to touch others, because we know that if they feel that, they will be ruined to everything else.”Nick Gagliardi, a 15-year-old Global Passion volunteer from Bakersfield, Calif. was one of four volunteers hosting a “Free Prayer Station” on the sidewalk in front of CVS Pharmacy on South Common Street.”We are trying to get more people to go to church on Sunday and to pray. We want people to know that God is there for them,” said Gagliardi, who was holding a 3-by-5-foot sign that read: “Prayer Station – Free.”Rebecca Gorman, a 14-year-old volunteer from Waterville, Maine said that she heard about Global Passion Ministries after seeing a flyer at her church, the Temple Calvary.”We are just trying to spread the word of God and some people have beeped at us and waved (in front of CVS) while others have been more negative,” said Gorman. “This is my first year as a volunteer, but I am looking forward to doing more work, especially when we go to Mexico next year.”On the Global Passion Ministry Boston Web site, the organization explains more about their trip to Lynn: “We will be working with East Coast International Church (ECIC) to reach the area of Lynn. The motto there is, ‘Lynn, Lynn, city of sin, you never come out the way you go in.’ Our teams will encounter children that have never felt loved. Your smiles and hugs will make an impact that can change a child’s life.”Joshua Kansiewicz, assistant to the pastor at ECIC, said the church appreciates the Global Passion volunteers coming to Lynn.”We at the ECIC have enjoyed partnering with Global Passion,” he said. “Those kids help to make Lynn a better place to live.”
