Silvi Cohen drove in Hannah Pelkey with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Marblehead High softball team a thrilling 12-11 victory over Gloucester, Friday, at Marbelhead Veterans Middle School.”It was a really exciting game,” Marblehead coach John Gold said.Gloucester scored three runs in the top of the ninth, but the Magicians (11-5) battled back. After a couple of walks, Pelkey drove in two runs with a double. A sacrifice bunt by Lizzie Whitehall tied the game before Cohen won it.The Fishermen took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but a solo homer by Pelkey highlighted a 2-run bottom of the second.A 2-run double by Kate Fallon in the third put the Magicians on top, but Gloucester answered with three runs in the top of the fourth.Sam Norman tied the game with a 2-run homer in the fourth, and Fallon’s second 2-run double of the game in the fifth gave Marblehead an 8-6 lead.Gloucester scored twice in the seventh to send the game into extra innings, and looked to put the game away with three runs in the ninth before the Magicians’ winning rally.Marblehead travels to play at Lynnfield on Monday.Winthrop 2, Danvers 1At Winthrop, Kristen Finn delivered her seventeenth complete game, allowed one run on seven hits, walked three and struck out 10.The Vikings offense only provided two runs in support, but Finn’s performance was masterful enough that only two runs were required in Winthrop’s 2-1 victory over Danvers.”Kristen has been great all year, and she continues to pitch well,” said Viking (11-6) coach Dave Guffy. “Without her, we have no chance.”Abby Belcher scored both of her team’s runs, one in the third on Lindsey Barker’s RBI single and the other on Courtney Finn’s RBI single in the fifth.Peabody 15, English 0At English, the Tanners (12-3) received an almost perfect performance in all aspects of the game and scored a multitude of runs in support of pitcher Nicole Wilson’s complete game, three hit, 12 strikeout performance and eleventh win of the year.Tawny Palmieri (two RBI), Jamie Nocella (two RBI), Sam Lerner (RBI) and Estee Yanco all had two hits in Peabody’s offensive onslaught.For the Bulldogs (1-15), Aleasha Despres belted a double while Cara Crowley and Valerie Fiaccaprilli each singled.BASEBALLDanvers 4, Winthrop 1At Twi Field in Danvers, the Falcons (14-2) got 2-run singles from Greg Ladd and Chris Perry and a combined one-hitter from Bobby Dean and Ladd en route to clinching the NEC South crown.Dean allowed only a sixth inning single to Vin Eruzione while striking out 11 and walking five. Danvers scored twice in the first and third innings against Winthrop ace Matt Moore, who held the Falcons to just three hits.In other action, the Saugus/Swampscott game at Forest Avenue Field was postponed with the Big Blue leading, 4-2, after two innings.The game is tentatively rescheduled for Tuesday. Swampscott coach T.J. Baril said he’s “99 percent sure” the game will be replayed from the beginning. Justin Famiglietti made 16 saves in net.Southeastern 7, Tech 4At South Easton, the Tigers (2-11) fell behind early and couldn’t rally all the way back.Jeff Valley scored two goals and added an assist. Mike Donovan returned from a 10-game absence due to an injury and scored a goal, while Bulger Limchao scored his first goal of the season.The Tigers travel to Billerica to meet Shawsheen on Monday.Saugus 7, Danvers 6 (OT)At Danvers, Gilson Fernandez’s goal in overtime helped the Sachems pull to 7-7 on the season.
