LYNN – A Classical High School student in connection with the shooting that sent the school into lockdown May 9 was arraigned at Lynn District Court Friday.Giang Tran, 17, of 105 Ashland St., was arrested Thursday and charged with discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, and participating in an affray. On Friday, Tran was arraigned and was ordered held at Essex County House of Correction in lieu of $9,000 cash bail after he posted only $1,000 to the total amount.Tran’s case will be continued June 6 at 9 a.m.On Thursday, two witnesses told police they believed Tran was one of the persons involved with the shooting on May 9, and that he had been in possession of a shotgun at the time. Both recounted a fight they witnessed between a group of males near the corner of Holyoke Street and O’Callaghan Way around 2 p.m. on the day of the shooting. After several minutes of pushing and shoving, the witnesses said they saw someone throw a bicycle at a Nissan Pathfinder that broke the rear window on the passenger side.An Asian man then reportedly got out of the SUV, pulled out a gun and fired several shots. The witnesses described another male (believed to be Tran) who got out of the SUV with the gunman as heavy, wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt, Adidas flip-flops and black “Dickie” pants with a “mushroom” style hairdo. The witnesses said they believed the shotgun was stashed up the male’s sweatshirt sleeve when he began chasing the other party. After viewing footage from a video surveillance camera at the high school, the two witnesses both pointed out Tran and police arrested him in his classroom and transported him to the station for booking.During the booking, police seized a blue hooded sweatshirt, a long sleeved blue shirt, and a short sleeved black t-shirt.Police performed a search of Tran’s bedroom at his parent’s house and seized a pair of black “Dickie” pants, and a pair of black Adidas flip-flops.Tran’s arrest follows the arrest of Many Keo, 19, on similar charges after two witnesses identified him as the shooter in a photo line-up.However, when Keo was being arraigned, police confirmed his alibi that he was in fact working when the shooting took place around 2:30 p.m. last Friday.Ngoc My Chau, 20, of 17 Whiting St., a graduate of Classical, was arrested May 12 after he admitted to driving the Nissan Pathfinder that police believe was involved in the incident.Steven V, My, 18, also a Classical High student, was arrested immediately after the shooting. He was charged with trespassing and disorderly conduct. The shooting resulted in a chaotic environment in which three schools were put into lockdown – Classical High, Breed Middle and Callahan Elementary. No injuries were reported and students were released from the buildings about two hours after the incident.
