Classical’s Luis Castillo had a stellar game standing atop the mound and in the batter’s box in a 4-3 win over Revere.Castillo picked up his second victory of the season in a complete-game performance. He allowed one run on seven hits and four walks while striking out seven Patriots (0-14). At the plate, the pitcher went 2-3 and scored half of his team’s runs.A three-run fourth for Revere pushed the Patriots ahead 3-2 but Classical (4-9) came right back in the fifth with a two-run inning. Castillo led off with a walk, Felipe Barahona laid down a “perfectly placed” bunt single according to his coach Mike Zukowski, and Tyler Gauthier singled to load the bases.Shawn Cushman singled to drive home Castillo, and Gauthier scored later in the inning on a wild pitch to provide Classical with the eventual winning run.”The guys played pretty well today,” Zukowski said. “(Revere) scored their three runs on an error that should have been the final out of the inning. But we played well enough to win.”Barahona went 2-3 with a run scored, and Bobby Adams had a 3-4 day with an RBI.Salem 4, English 3At English, a 4-4 day at the plate for Salem’s Dan Reddy was the catalyst for the Witches’ (9-6) win in Bulldog (7-6) sophomore Sam Hill’s first start of the season.Hill pitched a complete game and struck out five in his debut but spotted Salem a 4-0 advantage after four that his team could not overcome.English pushed across three runs in the bottom of the fourth after Alex Fiste and Anthony Ortiz earned walks to lead off the inning. Fiste scored on a sacrifice fly from Eric Bransfield and Ortiz followed him home on a sac fly by Esteban Paula. Gabe Smith scored his team’s third run, but that is where the Bulldog scoring would stop.”It’s one of those games that is going to keep me from sleeping,” said English coach Joe Caponigro. “One-run losses kill you.”M’Head 5, Saugus 4At Marblehead, it may have taken 10 innings, but an error on an attempted double play was the misstep the Magicians required for their fifth victory of the season (5-9).Mike Sahagian (3-5, triple, run) led off the bottom of the tenth with a single and stole second to put the winning run in scoring position. The Sachems walked the cleanup hitter, Andy Glabicky, to set up the double play and the plan seemed to work perfectly when the pitcher induced a groundball from the batter, Dan Comeau. The shortstop fielded the ball cleanly and forced out Glabicky, but the second baseman made an off-target throw to first and Sahagian scored from second for the win.Shawn Likins (three earned runs, four strikeouts) and Glabicky (run, three hits, six strikeouts) each pitched five innings. In the fourth, Marblehead’s Ian McKinley (three RBI) hit his second double of the game and drove in two and scored later in the inning on a passed ball.Spellman 4, St. Mary’s 3At Spellman, Nick Conti delivered a complete-game effort but the St. Mary’s (7-8) offense continued to struggle to produce big hits in the loss. The Spartans jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first when Anthony Struppa (2-3, two runs scored) scampered home on Yano Petruzzelli’s fielder’s choice RBI but the team surrendered the lead in the bottom of the inning. The Cardinals scored two runs in the first and padded their advantage in the second with two more.Struppa scored again in the third on Conti’s fielder’s choice RBI, and John McDonnell scored St. Mary’s third and final run on Conti’s fielder’s choice later in the inning.”We’re playing fairly well defensively and pitching OK, but we’re not winning enough battles at the plate to score the runs we need,” said Spartan coach Derek Dana.Conti allowed four earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out one.St. John’s 16, MC 0At St. John’s, Matt Warden pitched a complete-game shutout and the Eagle (9-6) offense compiled 14 hits highlighted by a nine-run second inning on the way to an easy victory over a tough Malden Catholic (13-3) team. With two outs in the bottom of the second, the Prep’
