Getting win No. 100 is special for any coach. But add in achieving it in your hometown on the field you grew up playing on, and having your family and friends in the stands to see it, and it becomes even better. For Shawsheen coach Kevin Bloom, who was born and raised in Lynn and still calls the city home, that was the scenario that played out on Wednesday at Fraser Field.Bloom’s Rams got six brilliant innings from Anthony Miano, who held Tech to two hits and one earned run while striking out 11, and took advantage of a couple of scoring chances to grab a 2-1 win and qualify for the state tournament.”That is always the goal,” Bloom said. “You want to qualify for the tournament and that was the big thing (Thursday).”The milestone moment was made even more special because Bloom’s wife, Mary Beth, was in the crowd, and children Brian (10) and Matthew (7) served as batboys for the team in the game.”It was great to see the older guys on the team interacting with them,” Bloom said. “This really is like a family. My wife knows all the kids’ names, and she asks me how they did in the game.”Ironically, the milestone probably wouldn’t have happened at home for Bloom without a rainout last Tuesday that forced the teams to make up the game on Wednesday.”It’s funny how things work out,” Bloom said. “It is something that I’ll remember. I played at Fraser and coached at Fraser, and to do it in the city with my wife and kids looking on was nice.”Shawsheen (10-3, 10-0 CAC) took a 1-0 lead in the second when Derek Bartwell scored on Tom Joyce’s RBI double. The Tigers (8-3) got back even when Jose Mota, who held Shawsheen to three hits on the mound, tripled home Leury Peguero to tie the game in the third. The Rams grabbed the lead for good in the fourth when Steve MacIsaac tripled and scored on a wild pitch. From there on, the pitchers kept the teams scoreless.”Mota did a great job of keeping us off balance,” Bloom said. “And Anthony did a tremendous job. He kept them guessing a bit.”S’scott 4, Peabody 2At Swampscott, Hunter Gordon threw a complete game with nine strikeouts as the Big Blue (4-7) overcame an early 2-0 deficit.”Hunter usually gets stronger as the game goes on and he certainly did that (Wednesday),” Swampscott coach T.J. Baril said.Peabody jumped on Gordon early as Pat Yeo hit a 2-run homer in the second inning. That lead didn’t last long as Gordon, Chris Cameron and Dean Dennis drove home runs in the third inning to give Swampscott the lead for good.Justin Mitchell tacked on an insurance run with a solo homer in the sixth. Gordon then finished in style, striking out the side in the fifth and seventh innings.”The last three innings, he was lights-out,” Peabody (9-4) coach Mark Bettencourt said about Gordon.Danvers 10, Classical 1At Twi Field in Danvers, the Falcons (9-2) trailed 1-0 after Wilson Mercado’s solo homer in the first, but rallied for three runs in the second and six in the third. John Gikas drove home three runs for Danvers. Bobby Dean had two hits and an RBI; Tom Marini had a hit and an RBI.G’ster 14, English 6At Gloucester, the Bulldogs (7-4) got a solo homer and a double from Jonathan Santelises, but watched as shaky defense doomed them. The Fishermen led most of the way, breaking open a close game with a six-run fifth. Brendan Carritte had an RBI double for English.Fenwick 11, St. Mary’s 5At Peabody, the Crusaders (6-6, 5-3 Catholic Central League) broke the game open with a six-run sixth inning. Anthony Pisani got the complete-game win and drove home a pair of runs in the sixth.Dale Crispin was 4-for-4 with two runs scored, five RBI and a homer to lead the Fenwick offense. Nick Guido was 2-for-3 with three runs scored.Yano Petruzzelli was 2-for-4 for St. Mary’s (6-6, 4-4 CCL) with a 2-run homer in the sixth that made it 5-2.
