After having two games rained out over the weekend, the St. Mary’s baseball team finally got back on the field Tuesday in Braintree against Archbishop Williams.The Spartans shook off some early rust thanks to solid pitching from Ryan Beliveau, who allowed only four hits over seven innings, and used a four-run third inning to take a 5-2 win.”Ryan was waiting a long time for this game,” St. Mary’s coach Derek Dana said. “That was a big-league win.”The Spartans (6-5, 4-3 Catholic Central League/Large) did most of their damage in that third inning. Tade Ogunbona led off with a single and moved to second on an errant pickoff throw.Chris Kefalas drove him in with an RBI single that made it 1-0. Angel Rodriguez followed with a single before both were sacrificed up a base by Joe Kasabuski.Anthony Struppa delivered them both with a double that made it 3-0 before Yano Petruzzelli’s single capped the scoring.St. Mary’s added a final run in the sixth on an Ogunbona RBI single. Beliveau held the fort from there, allowing two runs while striking out five and walking none.Whittier 6, Tech 0At Haverhill, the Tigers’ (8-2) Mike Leone allowed only one earned run, but was victimized by six errors that helped the Wildcats to the victory.Offensively, Tech didn’t fare much better, as only Jose Rios and Leury Peguero managed hits.SOFTBALLM’head 12, English 0 (5 innings)At Keaney Park, Courtney Colantuno hit for the cycle in a contest that was called after five innings (mercy rule). Colantuno started the ball rolling, or sailing, as the case may be, with a home run in the first inning. She had a single in the second, a double in the fourth and the always-elusive triple in the fifth. She finished with four RBI. Colantuno also picked up the win, allowing four hits and striking out five.The Magicians (7-3) had help from Kate Fallon (3-for-3); Laura Kanarski (2-for-3, 2 RBI); Hannah Pelkey (2-for-3, 2 RBI); and Mandy James (2-for-4, 2 RBI).
