SALEM – A 19-year-old teenage boy accused of raping and beating a Lynnfield girl while threatening her not to say anything or she would suffer “serious consequences,” will be released on $10,000 cash bail, but was ordered to stay out of Lynnfield.Ryan Ruma, of 209 Johnson St., North Andover was secretly indicted last Wednesday by an Essex County grand jury.He was arrested Saturday on an indictment warrant and appeared Monday afternoon in Salem Superior Court pleading innocent to four counts of rape, two counts of breaking and entering in the daytime with intent to commit a felony and two counts of assault and battery.Charges pertain to incidents last October in Lynnfield, North Andover and Essex County.The victim, 16 at the time of the offenses, testified before the grand jury, saying she was raped in Lynnfield on Oct. 13, twice on Oct. 20 and again on Oct. 24 after Ruma allegedly burglarizing her Lynnfield home in the daytime.She also testified that following the rapes he threatened her, saying there would be “serious consequences” for her if she told anyone or went to the police and that he had ways of finding out if she ever told anyone, according to court documents.The victim told police that Ruma also beat her on Oct. 19 and again on Oct. 27 after he allegedly burglarized her home in the daytime.As recommended by the prosecutor and defense, Judge Howard J. Whitehead agreed to set a $10,000 cash bail.Assistant District Attorney Marsha H. Slingerland said although Ruma is considered a danger to the victim she and defense lawyer Anthony Ortiz reached an agreement that he could be released on the cash bail with specific conditions.Ruma will be put on a GPS monitoring device with Lynnfield as the exclusionary zone, he is to reside with his mother and has a curfew between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. seven days a week.He also was ordered to have no contact with the victim, her mother or witnesses involved in the case, must be employed and can not travel out of state during the dependency of his case.Ruma will not be released until the GPS monitoring device is in effect, which should take a few days.His next scheduled court date is June 4 for a pretrial conference.Ruma faces up to 20 years in state prison on each of the rape charges; up to 10 years in state prison on each of the breaking and entering crimes and up to 30 months in jail on the assault and battery charges.
