The St. Mary’s boys lacrosse team was unable to complete its comeback bid as Manchester scored with 20 seconds remaining in the contest to take the victory, 12-11, at Lynn.Joe Twomey paced the Spartans with seven goals, the most ever scored by a St. Mary’s player in the program’s three years of existence, according to coach Jeff Smith.”(Twomey) was very accurate,” Smith said. “He took 10 shots and scored seven goals. He played a good game. His teammates also helped allow him to get open and pass him the ball.”St. Mary’s, which fell behind 9-4 in the second half, stormed back to tie the score at 11 with just under two minutes left to play.”We didn’t play too well defensively, but it wasn’t for a lack of effort,” said Smith. “It was a lack of execution. But the kids hung in well.”Smith also said that the Spartans may have been a bit tired for the game after playing a game on Friday night against Matignon.The loss drops to Spartans’ record to 3-6 (3-4 in the CCL).Seamus O’Leary, Corey Campbell, Shane Swain and Mike Toomey scored a goal each for St. Mary’s. Saturday’s scheduled games between Arlington Catholic and St. Mary’s, Salem and Swampscott, Bishop Fenwick and Cardinal Spellman, and St. John’s and Hopkinton were all delayed due to field conditions.
