MARBLEHEAD – Voters will flock to the Marblehead Veterans Middle School this evening at 7:45 p.m. for the opening night of the annual Town Meeting.Officials are expecting the conclude action on the 45-article Town Warrant in two nights, but that expectation depends in part on the debate over Article 21, which calls on the town to purchase the so-called Angenica property. The Finance Committee has recommended indefinite postponement of the article, but neighbors of the Longview Drive parcel are expected to show up in force again. The purchase failed twice by narrow margins in the past two years, gaining majority votes but not the two-thirds required to pass a land purchase.Once the voters decide that issue, they then must resolve any controversy over the proposed $19.6 million Marblehead Village School rehab and act on a Fiscal 2009 budget of $65.75 million, $39 million for general government and $26.7 million for the schools, amounts the town can raise without a general override of Proposition 2 ?.Land purchases and the Village School project will require special debt exclusion override elections in June if they are approved at Town Meeting.
