LYNN – Four suspected gang members were ordered held without bail Monday for allegedly taking part in a retaliation shooting on Pinkham Street over the weekend.Phallen Kim, 18, of 483 Beach St., Revere, Cheanthony Sok, 17, of 66 Walnut St., Lynn, Richard “Pookie” Pouk, 20, of 15 Barrett St. #2, Lynn and Vannark Chourb, 18, of 8 Minot St. #1, Lynn all entered automatic pleas of innocence for various weapons and assault charges. A fifth defendant, a 16-year-old Lawrence boy, was arraigned on the same charges in juvenile court.Kim was additionally charged with numerous motor vehicle violations after he allegedly crashed into another car on Union Street while fleeing from police late Saturday night.Police say the defendants fired a flurry of gunshots at 16 Pinkham St. and a car parked in front of the house while several small children were sleeping inside.According to a police report read by Assistant District Attorney Jen Kirshenbaum, the shooting was done in retaliation after a rival gang member fired several rounds at Chourb’s home on Minot Street on Wednesday. At about 9 p.m. Wednesday, police went to Chourb’s home after someone fired approximately three rounds at his house. One of the bullets was found stuck in a windowpane. No one was hurt.”Officers believe this is in retaliation of what happened earlier,” Kirshenbaum said.Chourb and the other defendants are members of the Crips and a resident of the Pinkham Street home is a member of the Bloods, prosecutors said.Plain clothed officers heard shots ring out at about 11:05 p.m. Saturday as they were conducting a traffic stop on Shorey Street, near Pinkham Street, for an unrelated matter. The officers quickly turned the corner onto Pinkham and observed a car with its headlights turned off driving toward them, prosecutors said. The officers, one from Salem and another from the Lynn Police Gang Unit, drew their service weapons and shouted at the driver to turn off the engine, according to authorities.Instead the driver, later identified as Kim, allegedly put the car into reverse and sped down Pinkham toward Union Street. He allegedly ran a stop sign and collided with a moving car on Union Street, putting both cars into a spin.Kim allegedly jumped out of the car and led the Lynn officer on a foot chase down Union Street before getting arrested a short time later. The four other defendants remained inside the vehicle and were arrested, prosecutors said.Back on Pinkham Street, officers found several bullets in the front living room of the home, authorities said. The residents told police several small children were sleeping at the rear of the home, but added that no one heard the gunshots because they were playing loud music at the time, according to prosecutors.Police allegedly found two firearms inside Kim’s vehicle and another on the ground outside the Pinkham Street home, including a .9-milimeter handgun, a .25-caliber and a .380 semiautomatic with a bullet jammed in the chamber. After all the suspects had been detained, Kim allegedly told police someone from 16 Pinkham St. shouted “Crab” toward him and his friends. The word is a derogatory term toward Crip members, prosecutors said. The suspect said someone fired shots at he and his friends, who fired back from their vehicle, according to prosecutors. All of the adult defendants had prior open cases against them. Lynn District Court Judge James Wexler revoked all of their bails from those cases due to their alleged involvement in Saturday’s shooting.Pouk has a pending Salem Superior Court case for attempted murder and firearms violations after he and three other men allegedly drove around West Lynn and discharged two firearms from a vehicle in July. No one was hurt.In open court, Attorney Vy Troung, who is representing Pouk in both cases, said he spoke with a prosecutor from Salem Superior who said the charges against Pouk stemming from the July incident might be reduced because the nature of his involvement was questionable.
