The Salem State College baseball team posted an 11-6 come-from-behind victory over Plymouth State University in a non-conference contest played Thursday at the New Salem State College Baseball Field.Prior to the start of the final home game, the team honored its 11 graduating seniors.SSC (24-12) spotted the Panthers (9-21) a 6-2 lead over the first four innings before roaring back with nine unanswered runs, including a six-run seventh frame. The Vikings collected 14 hits with senior Ken Luongo going 4-for-5, scoring twice and knocking in a pair. Junior Rob Coppola (Revere) went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, three stolen bases and a pair of RBI for the Vikings.SSC senior Anthony Palmieri (Peabody) finished with a pair of hits and two RBI while seniors Mike Addesa (Revere) and Casey Melchionno (Revere) each recorded a single. Senior Matt Mello (Peabody) added a single and three RBI and senior Bobby Celentano (Peabody) singled, scored, swiped a base and collected an RBI. Freshman Ryan Kane (Nahant) stroked a double and scored twice for the winners.Junior righty Bobby Fournier recorded the win in a relief role, working the final three innings. Fournier gave up just three hits, struck out two and walked one. John Pogorzelski led the Panthers’ offense with a 4-for-5, one-RBI performance. Brandon Hodge blasted a two-run homer to right to put the visitors up 6-2 in the fifth.SSC’s final regular-season games will be Saturday, April 26, when the Vikings travel to Westfield State College for a Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) doubleheader (noon start) against the Owls. SSC is currently 7-5 in the MASCAC while Westfield is 8-4.LACROSSEThe Vikings (8-4) jumped out to a 15-3 lead at the half and then coasted to a 20-4 win over Becker College (7-6) in their final regular-season match, played Thursday at Alumni Field. The victory capped off SSC’s first year back competing at the NCAA Division 3 level after playing four years as a club program.SSC sophomore attackman Justin Jones (Danvers) led the offense with five goals while sophomore Nate Snow (Salem) added a pair. Single scoring strikes were tallied by sophomore Mark Duran (Lynn), sophomore Mike Carpenito, sophomore Marshall Jutras (Beverly), senior Jeff Rolke, sophomore Luke Metraw, sophomore Robert Mulroy (Swampscott), junior Robert Basile, sophomore Derek Buckley, junior Tim Bartlett (Danvers), sophomore Logan Godfrey and junior Scott Aronian. Jones, Mulroy and senior Torey Nicholson each added a pair of assists.Junior Keith Hardy and freshman Greg Gaudet (Lynn) shared the goalkeeping duties for the Vikings with each playing a half. Hardy made four stops and Gaudet one.
