LYNN – The Boston Red Sox will visit Lynn, Malden and Weymouth next week as part of the 2008 World Championship Trophy tour sponsored by the Massachusetts State Lottery.Both the 2004 and 2007 trophies will be on display in the three communities.The trophies will visit Weymouth High School in Weymouth first on April 25 from 2-5 p.m., before they are displayed at Lynn City Hall on April 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.The last stop will be at Malden High School in Malden on April 26 as well from 2-5 p.m.James Marsh, chief of staff to Mayor Edward J. Clancy Jr., said events such as this not only provide family fun and entertainment, but also inject dollars into the city’s economy.”Before and after these types of events, people will be looking for a good restaurant or coffee shop to complete their afternoon or night,” he said. “We are hopeful that not only will event goers patronize the existing businesses, but the influx of people will encourage other quality businesses to locate in and around the downtown.”Marsh said the event would also showcase the renovated Veterans Memorial Auditorium.”Whether it’s the Doodlebops, the Vienna Boys Choir who we are trying to schedule for our holiday concert this year, or the Boston Red Sox, it’s all about bringing the community together in the downtown,” he said.Marsh thanked the Nerich family, who he said has a connection to the Red Sox and were helpful in coordinating the event with the Mayor’s Office.After the World Series victory in 2004, the Boston Red Sox shared the triumph with their fans by taking the trophy to different cities and towns throughout Red Sox Nation for public viewings.
